Today in Soap Opera History (October 20)

On this date in...

1930: The soap opera was born, with the debut of the first episode of Irna Phillips’ PAINTED DREAMS. Although the series had a relatively brief network run, compared to Ms. Phillips’ other triumphs, it is widely recognized by broadcast historians as the first very soap opera. 1951: CBS debuted its eye logo. Celebrating 60 years today, CBS.com and CBSNews.com will replace its homepage’s current CBS Eye with the original Eye logo. Users can view photo essays of the Eye logos throughout the decades here.

1980: Kin Shriner debuted as Jeb Hampton on TEXAS.
