Netherlands: 4,500 Fans Enjoy GTST LIVE In Utrecht

August 27 was the perfect day for the ultimate GOEDE TIJDEN SLECHTE TIJDEN fan. GTST LIVE took place on that day, a fan event in Theater Vredenburg in Utrecht. With three sold out shows (a total of 4,500 tickets) it was a big success. It shows how popular this show still is almost 21 years after the first episode.

The show started with a performance of "Jij" by Robin Martens (Rikki de Jong), Ferry Doedens (Lucas Sanders), Raynor Arkenbout (Edwin Bouwhuis) and Guido Spek (Sjoerd Bouwhuis). It's the song their characters performed in the last episode of last season.

After this it was time for what everyone had been looking forward to all summer: the first episode of season 22. During Nina and Noud's wedding reception Wiet fired a gun. The tent where the party took place collapsed. Who came unscathed from the attack and who didn't? It's pretty unique that they showed this episode already, because the new season doesn't start until September 5. During a previous fan event they showed the 4000th episode, but that was only one day before it aired on TV.

I think the writing for GTST has been great the last couple of years, but I was especially impressed by this first episode of the season.

The opening of the episode was very un-soap-like. For minutes there was no dialogue. Just slow motion images of the victims and their loved ones. It was very emotional. The rest of the episode was really well done too. Great acting from everyone. We were asked to not give too much away about the episode so I won't.

Then it was time for the actors to come out on stage. There was a lot of screaming when everyone was introduced by host Froukje de Both (she used to be on the soap opera GOUDKUST years ago). There were two sections on stage. On the left there were 14 chairs at a bar. On the right there were a couple of couches. The show focused more on the 7 actors on the couches (for every show there were different actors on the couches). I went to the morning show and one of the actresses on the couches was Jette van der Meij (Laura Selmhorst), the only original cast member that's still on the show (since episode 1). She talked about how great it was to have this interaction with the fans. Because they're always filming in the studio and rarely get a direct reaction from fans. Ferry Doedens talked about his character Lucas' relationship with Edwin and the commotion that it caused. Not everyone was ready to see two guys in bed together. But Ferry is proud of the storyline and hopes he will be able to play Lucas for a long time. Erik de Vogel talked about what it's like to play the same character for a long time. He complimented the writers and said he still finds challenges in his work or else he would stop playing Ludo Sanders.

At the end of the show Ferry Doedens and Guido Spek performed an up-tempo version of "Jij".
