REVIEW: Is the new CALIFORNIA HEAVEN more like DARK SHADOWS or DYNASTY?

Web Series: CALIFORNIA HEAVEN

For fans of...: DYNASTY; MELROSE PLACE; DARK SHADOWS

What it is: Wealthy Malibu family generates drama galore.

What's good: Daytime TV caliber direction, writing, and acting. Three episodes a week!

What's great: Promising an incredible 100 episodes, this very soapy web treat could achieve the narrative momentum and depth of a traditional daytime television classic. Already doing a good job doling out equal helpings of exposition and suspense. We'll update our review in a few weeks—stay tuned!

What could be better: Up to a quarter of each episode is, in one form or another, credits.

Addictive like...: Godiva chocolate

Grade: A-

Review based on: Episodes 1-3

  1. I'm not sure yet but I am hooked. Weirdly enough my blog posts about it take longer than it takes to watch an episode.

  4. Dear Mr. Mulcahy,
Thanks soo very much for posting such a lovely review about CALIFORNIA HEAVEN! Playing twin sisters mysteriously deceased Sandie Corrigan + Oklahoma spitfire, Aunt Ruthie represents a "true joyride" for me, and your support for our unparalled show is absolutely exhilarating!

  5. How does this relate to the original California Heaven? IIRC, that ran for two seasons with half hour episodes. I understand this is probably a continuation of that, but is there a chance we could see the original series again? I remember watching it when it originally aired and I LOVED it. I hated that it never got the credit it deserved for truly being the first web soap.

Can't wait to watch this new one.

  6. Mr Mulcahy ~ I must say you show inordinate taste and in my flurry most definitely congratulate you on your choice of comparisons!
We find ourselves in the midst of a most appalling dilemma ( which may be revealed or reviled ) simultaneously or not! We shall see!
Meanwhile i bid you Adieu or Gracias Senor whichever rings true?
