REVIEW: LOTOH - A Take on the Mid-century Soap Opera?

Web Series: LIFE OF THE OTHER HALF

For fans of...: ONE LIFE TO LIVE; THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS

What it is: A bunch of privileged Aussie singles make their lives more difficult than they need to be.

What's good: This series takes us back to the days when daytime soaps were about the sort of glamorously banal drama only spoiled young pretties endure. Embraces classic soap archetypes (The Socialite, The Casanova, The Perfect Wife) while freshening with a spritz of faux-doc-style irony.

What's great: Who will betray whom? Who will seduce whom? Solid eight-party set-up could eventually yield all sorts of trysts and hijinks.

What could be better: Halfway through the first season and it seems that we're just getting going. After a rather aimless first episode, momentum has been building steadily & we just had our first big love...pentagon, we want to say? Here's hoping the rest of the season is all about who does what and to whom.

Addictive like...: Chardonnay

Grade: B

Review based on: Episodes 1-6
