NEWS: Kim Zimmer, UK Soaps, EASTENDERS Rewrite

VIDEO: Kim Zimmer Makes Dream Come True For GL Fan
For more than two years, Donna Lee Sullivan has battled breast cancer. Doctors have given her two to six months to live. She had a dream come true when received a surprise visit on Wednesday afternoon from her GUIDING LIGHT favorite, Kim Zimmer (ex-Reva).

Soaps still cherished by UK viewers
British soaps have a special place in the nation's heart, attracting huge ratings and generating political debate, despite being gritty, unglamorous and derided routinely by cultural commentators.

"American soaps are about watching beautiful people suffer," says Tim Teeman, arts editor of Britain's Times newspaper and a big soap fan. "We like to watch ugly people suffer."

EASTENDERS to drop Lucas prostitute link
EASTENDERS bosses are going to re-shoot some parts of Lucas Johnson's story following the recent prostitute murders in Bradford. During next week's episodes - which were planned months ago - man of the cloth-gone-bad Lucas (Don Gilet) was to be seen visiting a local red light district and picking up a call girl named Jade.

Ilene Kristen to join cast of THE BAY
Ilene Kristen (Roxy, OLTL) is expected to join the cast of THE BAY in the third chapter as Liza Garrett, playing opposite Tristan Rogers. Liza is Sara Garrett's (Mary Beth Evans) aunt and Lex Martin's (Tristan Rogers) ex-wife. Expect Kristen's and Evans' characters to clash.

Shonda Rhimes on GREY's Derek and Meredith
“I deeply appreciate the fans and how much they care about Meredith and Derek, but as a woman and a human being and the mother of a girl, I just feel like this idea that somebody in a big, white dress is the be-all and end-all of human existent is a terrible message to send out,” maintains Rhimes. “I felt like Meredith and Derek’s choice to be together becomes a marriage of equals as opposed to some faux fairy tale. And while I love a good wedding, I felt like for Meredith, it was so counter to who she is as a human being. And I love the fact that Derek doesn’t need her to do it. I get why the fans want it; I’d probably want it too if I was just watching. But I literally feel sick every time think about Meredith in a big white poufy dress.”

  1. I totally agree with Tim Teeman's statement. Having seen both UK and American soaps, I also feel that we can relate more to the storylines by UK soaps (although the Otalia storyline on GL was the exception).
