Daytime's Thoughts on Emmy Nomination Process

Variety published an article today about the revised nomination process for the Daytime Emmys last year. Instead of show's selecting pre-noms from within their cast, the entire pool of actors from all shows was able to vote and select the pre-noms. In some cases, the actors were happy with the changes. Peter Bergman approves of the change saying, "I think (NATAS and the community) are trying to inch away from (the previous) system, and this year is the first step towards that end."

Susan Flannery suggested each show put on its website a one-minute clip of actors' work throughout the year to make it easier for people to judge actors they may not be familiar with. She decided not to vote this year in the younger actor or actress category saying, "I didn't know enough of them and I didn't think it would be fair to vote for anyone."

Crystal Chappell was sorry more GUIDING LIGHT actors did not submit themselves. "I am surprised we don't have more pre-noms," said Chappell. "Last summer was a hard time closing the show, and maybe the Emmys were not on people's minds, but they are obviously a talented group."
