Leann Hunley (Anna) has been secretly taping at the DAYS studio and Digest has the exclusive. "I was pleasantly surprised when I got the call. It came out of the blue," says the actress, who hadn't taped since March. "It was one of those, 'Would you be interested in coming back for a few days and then we'll see what happens.' And I said, 'Okay.' But they said that the caveat of the whole thing was that I had to keep it a secret. So, I didn't even tell my mother!" Anna will be revealed as Sydney's kidnapper on Friday, December 11.
In situations like this, are you happy to read the news in advance or would you rather your soap surprise you on the actual show?

ReplyDeleteAnother of Daytime's big issues is that secret's aren't secret anymore. Why not have the character reveal (much like they did on GH recently) on a Friday end of episode and then allow the internet chatter and a well placed advertisement over the weekend trumpet such a return.
Dropping it in the press well before the return isn't going to do anything but spoil the surprise.
It's not like when Chappell returned and telling the world about it brought new viewers in... it's more of a plot twist and they are ruining the fun for viewers.
Chele, I agree with you. An actor joining the cast is different to me as long as it's not the "answer" to a mystery. I wonder how "Who Shot JR?" would play out in 2009? Would there be any mystery at all?
ReplyDeleteI think it's irresponsible reporting on the part of the press. They should not reveal such a big secret before it's time.... JMHO.
ReplyDeleteYeeks - I really did not want to know this! I LOVE Leann as Anna and would watch the show with her reading the proverbial phone book. But revealing Sydney's kidnapper like this only diminishes interest.
