"The Kids Are All Right": The Story of Ann Williams' Children

For ten years, Ann Williams was Eunice Wyatt on SEARCH FOR TOMORROW (her character was shot by Morgan Fairchild's Jennifer).

Williams' children Amanda, Liz, Dan and Diana Welch grew up in the wealthy community of Bedford, N.Y. Then, a series of devastating losses upended their lives as kids: In 1983, their oil executive father was killed in a car accident, leaving a large debt behind, and their mother died of cancer 3½ years later at the age of 50. The kids were separated at that point because no relative could take them all in.

In "The Kids Are All Right: A Memoir," each describes, with humility, candor and humor, what happened next. Dan became a hellion, and was eventually kicked out of boarding school. Amanda got into drugs and dropped out of New York University. A neighbor reconsidered adopting Diana after she reached her teens. Meanwhile, Liz traveled to free herself of all of it.

GOOD MORNING AMERICA featured a segment on the book this morning.

  1. I remember watching Ann Williams's Eunice opposite Mary Stuart's Jo on SFT all those years ago. They both were loving & loyal sisters to one another. I also remember Ann as June Slater on the first year of ABC's Loving in 1983. She also played the 3rd female lead in the Broadway musical Applause opposite Lauren Bacall & Penny Fuller in 1970!

  3. As a Search fan, I fondly remember Ann as Eunice. I couldn't believe it when they killed off Jo's only sibling. I also enjoyed Ann as Margot, on EON. It was such a different role for Ann.
I'm half way through the book and it's a very interesting read. I think it was a great idea to have all four siblings write about what happened to them from their own perspectives. I look forward to finishing it.

  4. I too was an Ann fan from the days of the Doctors. I was lucky enough to meet her and eat lunch at the studio, tour the set, do a biography of her life before marriage, drop off baby gifts when Amanda was born on the way to the Worlds Fair and lastly tour the backstage of Applause after her final performance. Ann was a gracious lady who I admired and was proud to have known.
