INTERVIEW: ALL MY CHILDREN's Bobbie Eakes

We Love Soaps recently caught up with ALL MY CHILDREN star Bobbie Eakes at the Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction which was moved indoors because of rain. Eakes talks about her helping others, AMC's move to Los Angeles, and SORDID LIVES.

We Love Soaps: So you saw my FaceBook update that I was on my way here this morning?
Bobbie Eakes: I saw your Facebook update that you were going over here very early. I was still in my pajamas having coffee when you were already over here.

We Love Soaps: I wanted to be in pajamas. But rain, sleet, hail, early morning, we still love soaps and show up, regardless of the weather.
Bobbie Eakes: And this is a really good turn out considering.

We Love Soaps: Now you and I have spoken in the past about the idea that helping others helps us get through a difficult situation. Do you find that coming here and doing this work is beneficial for you?
Bobbie Eakes: Absolutely. It’s amazing how my mood has changed just since I’ve gotten here. The show, ALL MY CHILDREN, is moving to California, and there are just a lot of things that are in flux right now. You start to think about yourself a little bit too much. And then when you do something else and come out and help other people, it helps get your mind off the mundane and the trivial and it puts everything in perspective.

We Love Soaps: How do you feel about the move to L.A.?
Bobbie Eakes: I’m really happy that the show is continuing on. I was sitting next to Robert Newman [during the table autograph session], and GUIDING LIGHT is gone. So all I can say is that I’m just looking at all the positive aspects. I’m trying to look at the positive. And the fact the show is continuing on is just great.

We Love Soaps: It seems that [your character] Krystal has also gotten involved with some positive causes lately.
Bobbie Eakes: That’s true, and I wish that was continuing on a little bit more because I love working with Susan [Lucci]. We had so much fun doing those shows. I didn’t really get to go to Africa, unfortunately, but just doing all that comedy stuff with Susan was so much fun.

We Love Soaps: It looked like you two were having a ball.
Bobbie Eakes: We really enjoy working together. We really do. We were saying the other day that it’s too bad that hasn’t continued on. But now that they’ve figured out who’s going to L.A. and who’s not, maybe the writers will start writing for those that are on board.

We Love Soaps: It was refreshing to see a friendship on the show between two women versus the usual rivalry.
Bobbie Eakes: Yes. People love the catfights on soaps, but friendships are good too.

We Love Soaps: What’s happening now with SORDID LIVES: THE SERIES [the show on which Eakes has appeared and her husband David Steen stars]?
Bobbie Eakes: SORDID LIVES is still in sort of a legal limbo unfortunately. And I tell my husband that’s probably the number one question I get all the time is how SORDID LIVES is doing. I think there is a huge huge following for it. Del Shores, the creator and producer is getting ready to make an announcement this week. We don’t know what it’s concerning but stay tuned for that.

  1. Fun to know Bobbie and Susan had a good time doing the Africa scenes. It was good to see some of the ol' AMC humor. Love Sordid Lives, but don't remember seeing Bobbie. Didn't know she was married to G.W. in real life! Small world!
