CLASSIC CLIP: Daytime Emmys 1989

ANOTHER WORLD's Victoria Wyndham (Rachel) paid tribute to longtime co-star Douglass Watson (Mac) at the 16th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on June 20, 1989. Watson had died several weeks earlier on May 1 of a heart attack at the age of 68.

  1. Whoever ladled that annoying background music onto her speech should have been SHOT.

This was a moving memorialization, not a scene on AW. Her voice on its own would have been just fine.

  2. I still can't believe I didn't get this Daytime Emmy airing on tape!! Much less the Today show appearance with VW interviewed by Jane Pauley for the 25th anniversary where I first heard of DW's death. What I wouldn't give for a recording of that now...

  3. I love Victoria Wyndham. I visited her in New York and asked her about the Today show appearances. She said it was very hard to do but she comes from a family of acting professionals and "the show must go on". i also asked about the tribute she did on the Daytime Emmys and how did she get through it. She told me that she felt Doug urging her on and she said that it would have been the same for Doug if she had died. They had a remarkable friendship!
