AMC Moving to L.A., OLTL Moving to AMC Studio

Daytime Confidential's Jamey Giddens has broken the news that ALL MY CHILDREN will be moving to Los Angeles and ONE LIFE TO LIVE will take over AMC's New York studio.

ALL MY CHILDREN is moving to Los Angeles. Sister soap ONE LIFE TO LIVE will now move into AMC's former New York studio, with both soaps getting streamlined production modules and facility improvements. ABC Daytime President Brian Frons just broke the news on the set of AMC to the cast and crew!

Streamlined production module? Where have we heard this before? Quite honestly, I believe all the remaining daytime soaps need to be streamlined and probably cut to 30 minutes each so I don't see this as a bad thing necessarily. As long as a show is on the air, there is always hope for a creative turnaround.

The large casts and hour format remind me of a large corporation that overinflated during an upswing in the economy. What's happening now is the equivalent of what is happening at many companies where downsizing and streamlined models must be implemented.

  1. Steamlined oh no I hope oltl won't be peapacking it! This leaves two soaps left in ny correct? I don't get why they didn't move oltl after all it is the "money" soap I like the idea of 30 min soaps if it saves money and keeps them off the air

  2. Katie, my first question was, if they want to only use AMC's NY studio, why not move OLTL to LA and keep AMC in place. That would save two sets of moving expenses. There are obviously other motives in place behind the decision.

  3. If I had to make a guess I would say that Ms. Lucci was fine with it since I believe her daughter is still out there but Ms. Slezak said No f***ing way! This is just my speculation but on ES's site she mentions having lunch with Mr. Frons several weeks ago and I'm sure that was discussed.

  4. I'm strangely enthusiastic about this. But I do fear AMC will lose whatever small part of identity it had left.

As a sign of investment, though, they're upgrading Agnes Nixon's old show to HD at the same time. That's actually impressive.

It makes me worry more for OLTL.

Apparently Chrishell Stause in Twitter has also confirmed this news.

  5. Roger I think it has something to do with Guza having more influence at AMC and GH than OLTL which is why OLTL is being left out in the cold so to speak. At least ABC seems to be trying instead of CBS which is thinking (hey more game shows to go around)

  6. It is interesting that this news comes after the question from the podcast about trying to define AMC.

In the past AMC was defined by Pine Valley being a small town close to NYC. A teen aged Erica longed to live in the "big city" from the first episode. When she finally had that iconic fashion shoot at Lincoln Center (during Jenny's summer in NYC with Jessie)it was the culmination of her dream. Now that the show is moving to LA, I'll miss those Manhattan moments.

I know worse news is to come; including actors who won't make the move, but for the moment I'll just miss those gorgeous shots of the big apple.

  7. I wondered about that "streamlined production" line from the first I heard it. I don't think its necessarily bad, but I do think it means much smaller cast.

And for those soap fans who made cracks/rants about GL's 'new production model" -- get ready to suffer some growing pains of your own.

  8. AMC is a NY show with NY actors. Except for YR and DOOL, all of the soaps are dragging with their s/l's BUT I'm still watching soaps anyway, espec on ABC - my ultimate fav soap is AMC.
