I have a secret to admit, We Love Soaps fans. I thought I was past the point of falling in love with a fictional soap character. Sure, I had love in my heart for Sarah Gordan Buchanan (Jensen Buchanan) on ONE LIFE TO LIVE. There was a time when I couldn't miss a scene with Jake Mckinnon (Tom Eplin) on ANOTHER WORLD. And I can't forget my true love, Kimberly Brady (Patsy Pease) on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.
I hate to break it to Sarah, Jake, and Kimberly, but I have a new love. I now want to marry Nina Webster. Tricia Cast is currently stealing every scene she is in on the THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. There is not one false note in her portrayal. From the moment Cast and Nina returned to Genoa City it was as if she never left. I feel fully confident in saying the current story unfolding could not be happening without Cast and Nina.Nina is not only the smartest resident of Genoa City (sorry Jill, your drinking may have clouded your judgement), but watching her passion to save her son, to prove that Cane is a fraud and to put snarky Lily Winters in her place is a sight to watch.
I always enjoyed Nina, but never so much since she has returned to town. When all is said and done, I need to see Nina get beyond her troubled romantic past and find true love. Clearly, Phillip, David, and Ryan weren't the answers! If there isn't anyone available in town for her, I hope she knows where to find me.
Yes, Cast-as-Nina is amazing. I have to say that while I loved the late 1980s Nina-Jill-Kay triuvirate, I was never a major fan. After Phillip died, Nina got stupid, and lost herself over a succession of unworthy my (David Kimble, Ryan McNeil, and Francesco Quinn's character).
ReplyDeleteThis returned Nina retains some of the fierceness of early Nina, with a groundedness that I just don't see anywhere else on the canvas.
I know the actress lives in Tennessee, but honestly, heaven-and-earth should be moved to make her a permanent fixture in Genoa City.
You'll have to stand in line behind me! I love Tricia. I agree with Mark that I think the character lost her way a bit in the 90s, but the woman who returned is strong and interesting and NEEDED on this show. I can't wait to see her relationship with Phillip IV.

ReplyDeleteI have been waiting for Nina to return since the day she first left in early 2000's. She's such a breath of fresh air right now and I am so ecstatic over the fact that Y&R is featuring an A storyline centered around 4 veteran characters/actors. It doesn't get any better than that!

ReplyDeleteShe brings heart and soul to every scene she is in. There aren't many actresses who seem invested enough in their material to do that anymore. Of course I am excluding Suzanne Rogers from that list :)
ReplyDeleteSuzanne Rogers!! The BEST thing to result from the carnage at Days. As someone who didn't see her 1970s introduction, I really feel like she also embodies heart and soul in a way that NO other character on that show does.
ReplyDeleteMark, totally agree. At this point, Suzanne IS the heart and soul of the show. This is a woman who NEVER phones it in. To think in one recent month she was in more episodes than Kristian Alfonso! I love KA, but I wasn't complaining :)

ReplyDeleteI know what you meant Ash. That Lily has a history of turning on the men she claims she has feelings for. Daniel, Billy, and now Cane have all felt her wrath. I will forgive her for being angry with Kevin :)
ReplyDeletePlease tell me who I should thank for bringing Tricia Cast (Nina) back to the Young & the Restless. I have been a Nina fan since she first showed up in Genoa City. She was a pregnant teen who got involved with the evil Rose Deville and Cricket came to her rescue.... When Nina showed up a few months ago at Katherine's 'funeral' I thought it was just a tease....but now she's back! I love that she's the same feisty Nina, but with more maturity and moxie. Every scene she's in is truly captivating. I hope Nina sticks around GC for a long time....there are sooo many possibilities...
