In a new interview with TV Guide Canada's Nelson, Branco, Jess Walton (Jill) talks about almost not re-signing with the show, the return of Thom Bierdz and much more.Walton said landing the role of Jill on Y&R was easy.
Y&R fired Brenda [Dickson] because they had been having trouble with her for a while. I think they had already sent out feelers before the firing to get a head start because everyone knew it’d be a hard role to recast. They didn’t find anyone they liked, so they started to panic. Someone said to Bill Bell, “Have you seen Jess Walton’s tapes? They’re on your desk.” Bill said he hadn’t because he thought Jess Walton was a man’s name! Of course, I had been working across the hall on CAPITOL for years, but whatever. After he watched my tapes, Bill sent me to wardrobe and put me to work right away. So, to be honest, it was the easiest job I’ve ever landed.
