May Sweeps Begins: GREY'S Tops 18-49

No word on how the first day of "May" sweeps did in the daytime ratings yesterday, but last night ABC edged CBS thanks to fresh episodes of GREY'S ANATOMY and PRIVATE PRACTICE.

GREY'S was the top-rated program for the night, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, drawing a 4.9 rating/13 share with 13.2 million viewers overall. Its timeslot rival, CBS' CSI, actually had 14.5 million tuning in but settled for a 3.6/9 on a night that saw TV audiences spreading the wealth thanks to first-run episodes almost across the board.

SOUTHLAND (2.5/7, 8.0m) won its timeslot a week ago, but facing a new PRIVATE PRACTICE (3.4/10, 9.4m), the NBC cop drama dropped 16 percent in overall viewers.
