News Round-up: Timeshifting, Izzie, Rosa Nevin

TiVo's Stop||Watch(TM) Ratings Service Identifies Significant Timeshifting Among Network Premieres in January
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS was the fifth most time-shifted premiere with 52% of viewers watching on a timeshifted basis.

Deep Soap: Reunited And It Feels So Right
Sara Bibel writes: "The Four Musketeers reunion on Guiding Light was one of those sequences that can only exist in daytime. In no other medium do characters exist for decades. Part of the fun of the genre comes from watching characters grow up, evolve, and, yes, age. Seeing Krista Tesreau as Mindy again, for the first time in years, really was like seeing an old friend. The off-screen friendships of the actors came through as the foursome reestablished their chemistry from their first scene together."

Soap Opera Weekly's Joe Diliberto on GL's Doris being a lesbian
"So GUIDING LIGHT's Doris is a lesbian? I'm hardly surprised: On the heels of her venomous screed against Emma's 'My Two Mommies' essay, it was so obvious "the lady doth protest too much." Doris' coming out is welcome, but it's too bad she has to be the self-loathing type. However, perhaps her fear will help Olivia to finally embrace her own sexuality."

GREY'S ANATOMY'S Izzie learns her fate
Izzie will learn in this week's episode that she has cancer that has spread to her brain and liver.

Former AMC actress stars Rosa Nevin in a new play
Rosa Nevin is playing Chris Gorman in Theater D's production of Neil Simon's "Rumors," which opens Friday in Deerfield.

"I asked [my daughter] Sam to help mommy with her lines. She said, 'Will you help me with mine later?' " Rosa Nevin said. "My husband and I had tried to keep our children from doing this. They never showed any interest until last year when Samantha, who has a friend also named Samantha who is doing plays, got hooked."

Nevin's tenure in Pine Valley as Cecily started in 1987 at her godmother Phoebe Wallingford's mansion and ended in 1990 when her character and Nico Kelly married and went to New York. Cecily was involved with Charlie Brent during Nevin's second stint on the show, from 1994 to 1996.

"I never really appreciated what a great job that was," she said. "It was an ensemble piece. Most everybody got along great. It was a huge cast. Back in the day, we had about 32 contract players, the regulars."

Coming up on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES
Orson's antics will lead Bree to seriously contemplate divorce. The Dave Williams (Neal McDonough) saga will take a crazy turn when it becomes clear that the psycho has been targeting the wrong Wisterian.

Racial Vs. Gay Diversity in Daytime Television
Herdon Davis writes: "In 2009 daytime television staunchly remains the least racially diverse form of American entertainment. But despite the shocking scarcity of people-of-color there has been an infusion of gay and lesbian characters popping all across the sudsy landscape creating a pink-triangle emblazoned gay renaissance filled with social statements and PSAs.

In fact what was once considered to be historic, bold and taboo is now becoming commonplace; the visible and integrated presence of gay and lesbian characters on daytime dramas. Meanwhile people-of-color characters continue to be occasional dots on the canvas of turmoil with restricted storylines and long periods of non-representation."
