News Round-up: Mick Hazen, Hickland & Knight, MIPTV

INTERVIEWS: GL stars in Orlando
Sara Bibel published new interviews today with Crystal Chappell, Jessica Leccia, Frank Dicopolous, Elizabether Keifer, Zack Conroy, Beth Chamberlin and Michael O'Leary.

Chappell: "I’m a soap fan, so I think that most characters can do just about anything. People walk through paintings. Deciding you have feelings for a woman is not that big of a stretch. I was thrilled. This story’s been talked about for years. Jill Hurst originally thought about it for Maureen Garrett (Holly) and myself. It’s nice that people are open to us actually doing it. I think they’ve handled it very well."

TV GUIDE: Kelly Monaco Joins Vegas "Peepshow"
“I’m on pins and needles wondering, ‘What have I gotten myself into?’” says Monaco, who has a three-month deal with an option to extend. (GH fans won’t miss her because she’ll fly back to L.A. to tape the soap two days per week). “I’ve said no to so many things since DANCING WITH THE STARS, including Broadway musicals, because I can’t sing — I can barely do karaoke in the privacy of my own home,” she says. “But this is very exciting — a new kind of concept for a Vegas show.”

INTERVIEW: OLTL's Susan Haskell (Marty)
"Soap Shrink" Damon L. Jacobs interviewed Haskell on the recent Rock the Soap cruise for marlenadelacroix.com.

Haskell: "I’m not the boss. I don’t get the final say. But I do have really good communication with the writer and the executive producer, so I call them all the time if something doesn’t sit right with me. And they are very very open to what I have to say. Which is nice. I mean I don’t have the main story points. But within that I try to keep it as honest as I can."

Hickland and Knight sell co-op
ONE LIFE TO LIVE star Catherine Hickland and her estranged husband, ALL MY CHILDREN actor Michael Knight of All My Children, have sold their 12th-floor co-op at 255 West 84th Street for $2.3 million.

Power presenting ATWT at MIPTV 2009
Power, which owns the international distrubtion rights for ATWT and GL, is presenting the 13-part drama series THE CATCH, the 2-hour People’s Choice Awards, and AS THE WORLD TURNS at this year's MIPTV conference. MIPTV is the international market for financing, co-producing, buying and selling entertainment across all platforms.

“We are proud to bring a slate of high-end, quality drama to MIPTV this year, leading the industry into some of its most ambitious productions with stellar casts, fantastic writers and ground-breaking visual effects," said Power’s president of worldwide sales, Chris Philip.

VIDEO: Spencer Grammar Gears Up To Go GREEK
Spencer Grammer (ex-Lucy, ATWT) spoke with WPIX-TV about the upcoming season of GREEK.

ATWT's Michael Chaplin "Mick" Hazen (Parker) profiled
In real life, Mick, who turned 16 on March 22, is a high school student who is looking forward to driving lessons. When he is filming the daytime drama, his day begins before 5 a.m. as he heads off to film the show. He returns to school in the afternoon for classes until 4:15, and during basketball season he plays or practices until 7 p.m. Dinner at home follows, then homework and reading the next day’s script, and then lights out at 11 p.m. A long day for a high school sophomore.

Eva Longoria Parker on being TV Guide's Sexiest Woman
"I think the timing for this is pretty funny, actually, but also really great," says Longoria Parker, noting that her DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES character, former fashion model Gabrielle Solis, was "put through the wringer this season and survived. I love that Gaby has been able to withstand time—along with the bad haircuts and all the extra pounds—and is still considered sexy."

CW not worried about GOSSIP GIRL
Despite wildly negative fan responses to last week's "Age of Dissonance" and tepid reaction to this week's Nate-centric "The Grandfather," sources at the CW whisper that there is no serious concern about GOSSIP GIRL.

"The storylines are so good," says an insider. "It was gone for so long they were expecting something amazing."

Canada's DURHAM COUNTY coming to Ion
DURHAM COUNTY uses the tagline, "This is no Wisteria Lane". The Canadian series will air on Ion Television this fall.

CORRIE star backs sex education videos with values
Kids should be taught about sex “in a moral way”, according to CORONATION STREET’s 17-year-old Sacha Parkinson, as a Christian charity launches three powerful short videos about the impact of sex on others. In one video, plasticine couples graphically depict how individuals are always affected by the bonds that form in every sexual encounter. The video invites people to stop messing around with relationships and instead start sticking together.

"If people are just being taught about sex, then they'll think ‘that's something we should do’; if they're taught in a moral way, then it gives more respect to it,” says Sacha (pictured), whose character Sian Powers is friends with the soap's Christian teen Sophie Webster.
