Daytime Emmy Pre-Noms: A Round-up of Reactions

On Monday, I posted my Initial Daytime Emmy Pre-Nom Reaction. Two days later and must of the online soap community has reacted. Here is a round-up of rections from a few other folks:

Mala Bhattacharjee (Soap Opera Weekly): "Alicia Minshew (Kendall) has been a lead actress on ALL MY CHILDREN for ages now. So why is she always in Supporting Actress? Especially when Thorsten Kaye (Zach) is in Lead. The same goes for GUIDING LIGHT: Why is Daniel Cosgrove (Bill) in Lead and Marcy Rylan (Lizzie) in Supporting? They drove the same exact story last year and had pretty much equal airtime. And if the philosophy there is that Minshew and Rylan have a better shot of winning in Supporting because they can't hold their own against the Jeanne Coopers (Katherine, Y&R) of the world while Kaye and Cosgrove can go toe-to-toe with Anthony Geary (Luke, GH)...well, that's pretty gender biased and insulting, don't you think?"

Sara Bibel (Deep Soap): As it does every year, the blogosphere is seething with rage about perceived omissions and undeserving nominees. As someone who has been through the process from the other side my overall reaction was, 'Not bad.' While there were plenty of performers I wish had made the ballot, there were only a few nominees that registered on my personal, 'You have got to be kidding,' meter."

Michael Fairman (On Air On Soaps): "First off, the fact that Trevor St. John (Todd) of ONE LIFE TO LIVE didn't even make it through the final in-house voting from his cast mates. He was my pick for Lead Actor all the way this year, as he was for the year in which he was sentenced to death by lethal injection. Then we come to Y&R's 'Dynamic Duo' Melody Thomas Scott and Eric Braeden (Nikki and Victor) and in a year where they finally carried the show, and got back to what us viewers love most about their relationship...total dysfunction, they weren't getting out of the building from their shows as a pre-nominee either!"

Nelson Branco (TV Guide Canada): "Who needs Emmy reels? TvGuide.ca blindly guesses who may walk away with the gold." Check out the early predicted winners.

Daytime Confidential (DC #370): Luke, Mike, Jamey and Tina are joined on their podcast by TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco to discuss the Daytime Emmy Pre-Nominations.
