News Round-up

Clint Ritchie and The Buchanan Years Remembered
Marlena De Lacroix writes: "How sad it is for ONE LIFE TO LIVE viewers that Clint Ritchie passed away this week at age 70. When his eponymous character Clint Buchanan galloped in from the west to take over The Llaniew Banner newspaper and later the heart of its owner, the show’s main heroine, the widow Viki Riley, he really became part of the fabric of the show and remained so for the next twenty years."

Serialized stories out in prime time?

GH: Sonny makes love - not (gang) war
Sonny shocks everyone Friday on "General Hospital" by not killing someone - and then he has sex with his wife.

"He wants to kill Anthony," says Maurice Benard, who plays Sonny, to the New York Daily News. "But he doesn't."

Anthony shot Sonny's bride, Kate, on their wedding day. Sonny finds him and pulls a gun, but Jason convinces Sonny not to pull the trigger so they can hand Anthony over to the feds instead.

"Jason and Sonny get back together," says Benard of the dueling mobsters. "That's cool because that's his true love."

Soaps tour to open in Macon
When Soap Opera Mania on Tour opens Saturday at the Anderson Conference Center, Macon attendees will likely recognize one familiar face — for more than the obvious reasons. That face belongs to Natalia Livingston, Macon’s own girl-next-door, who now occupies an esteemed — and envied — spot in the hearts of many GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers.

For Livingston, the tour is a nifty excuse to come home again.

“I am happy to go back to Macon,” she said by telephone, after a morning of taping scenes on the ABC lot. “I have been in (Los Angeles) for seven or eight years, but have never forgotten where I grew up.”

Jason Olive to guest on THE GAME
Seattle Grace doesn't have a monopoly on handsome doctors. Just ask Melanie (Tia Mowry), who throws herself into work after the big fight with Derwin (Pooch Hall) and meets ... well, let's just call him Dr. McHottie. Soap hunk Jason Olive (GUIDING LIGHT, PASSIONS, ALL MY CHILDREN) plays the hot doc in "The Side Part, Under Episode."

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS the "best-acted show" on television
"The plot twists might be soap-like, but the acting is in a brilliantly naturalistic style. Deep emotions are projected quietly. This is soap-opera of the highest order - and maybe the best-acted show on TV."

Ben Kingsley returns to CORONATION STREET?
Veteran actor Sir Ben Kingsley has hinted that he might return to CORONATION STREET — the same soap opera which marked the beginning of his career 40 years ago.

“Oh I did enjoy my time on CORONATION STREET. I said I might go back, have a pint in the Rovers Return. I have very fond memories. I think a long-running soap is a very interesting way of looking at the social history of a time and a place,” Kingsley told The Sun.

INTERVIEW: DAYS' Taylor Spreitler (Mia)
"I think Days did a good job of showing the tougher side of teen pregnancy. I don’t think it’s exactly an easy thing for teenagers to go through. It was difficult even just wearing a belly. I couldn’t even put on my own shoes when I was wearing it."
