News Round-up

BBC drive to make internet available on your TV set
The BBC announced plans yesterday to provide the internet on televisions sets. The move could allow viewers to watch programs from the past week via the BBC's ondemand iPlayer site, and also videos on YouTube. They could even watch episodes of rival ITV hit shows such as CORONATION STREET and The X FACTOR, or view family pictures through photo-sharing websites.

TOM CASIELLO: Gluttons for Punishment, Springing Eternal
"Michael Logan recently talked about hope in the latest issue of TV Guide, and in spite of the low ratings, budgets being slashed, vets being fired - the execs in charge remain positive. Naivete? Maybe a little (okay, a lot.) Denial? (Okay, possibly.) But many soap writers share that hope that there's still a way to turn this around, so I don't doubt that everyone's intentions aren't pure, even if their actions show otherwise."

LYNN LICCARDO: Shooting at a Moving Target
"I've written before about the relationship between daytime and primetime soaps, and am contributing an essay on the topic to the book Sam Ford is co-editing. But I'm just now coming to realize that given the economic realities the four broadcast networks face, the future of daytime soaps on broadcast TV is inextricably linked the future of primetime dramas in general, and primetime soaps in particular."

CADY MCCLAIN: Writers write
"The one thing I am sure of is that despite my desperate need for vacuous entertainment and hygiene, my piss ant behavior and sullen insistence on personal time, I do love to write. God, I just love it. Whether it’s an ego trip or a masochistic indulgence or some strange combo of the two, or perhaps something less vain and more charitable or spiritual, I don’t know. I just don’t know. I DO know- writing makes me enjoy my life more."

INTERVIEW: Constance Towers
Towers, who has appeared on numerous soaps including GENERAL HOSPITAL, CAPITOL and LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING was a guest on "Stardish Radio" on Tuesday.
