News Brief

Is Sarah Palin bound for DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES?
Series creator Marc Cherry is "very hot to trot to have her appear on the season-five finale," Hollywood public relations man Hal Lifson, who's not involved with the show, told the New York Post. "Marc is highly enamored of Sarah and sees her as the ultimate guest star [playing] a similar version of herself. The idea has gone over surprisingly well with execs at Disney, who see it as a blockbuster based on Sarah's huge ratings on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. Cherry declined to comment. An ABC rep said, "There's no truth to it."

TOM CASIELLO: A Momentary Reprieve
"I'm still a little jaded - don't get me wrong. But for a second, whatever the reasons, I feel like these shows are starting to give a damn again. They're not relying on the same old, same old (well... some of them aren't at least. Others are still a little lost...) Could it all backfire? Sure. Phillip's Return on GL may be too little, too late. Reese might end up being no more important to the Pine Valley canvas than Ava was on the DOOL canvas. Brian may end up going psycho like every other recurring character on ATWT does (paging Adam Hughes, Eve Coleman, Colonel Mayer, Rick Decker...) And once again, we'll all be left sitting here, shaking our heads in disappointment."

INTERVIEW: AMC's JR Martinez (Brot)
"After about the fifth day, I hadn't seen my body, because there were so many bandages. [The nurse] came into my room and he said, 'Okay, JR, we're going to do your care.' I said, 'No. I want to see my face. I want to see my body.' That really shocked him, for me to say that so early on. He said, 'No, no, no, not yet.' I said, 'I'm 19 years old, and I'm going to have to live with this for the rest of my life; I might as well start learning how to live with it now.' He said, 'I can't argue with you on that. That's your request. We have to grant it.' He pulled up a mirror, and that's when everything changed for me."

Sean Kanan: "It's Just Sex!"
No, it's not what you think. B&B and GH alum Sean Kanan (Pierre, S&S; ex-Deacon,B&B; ex-AJ, GH) isn't having a sordid affair; he is just channeling a little SWINGTOWN in a new comedy about love and lust, It's Just Sex. It opens this Friday, Nov. 14 and runs through Dec. 28 at the Two Roads Theatre in Studio City, Calif. For information on tickets and showtimes, call 818-762-2282, or visit the Two Roads Theatre page at nohoartsdistrict.com. No patrons under 18 will be admitted.

REVIEW: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: “Keeping Up Appearances”
R.A. Porter writes: "The relationship between JD and his father is showing further signs of cracking, in sharp contrast to Jamarcus and his father. While both relationships are strained, one is unhealthy and headed for a bad end. Jarmarcus’ father doesn’t want his son to play football, but he and his wife listened, remained openminded, and found a way to appreciate what their son could do, and what Coach could do for their son. Joe McCoy has no appreciation for his son, for Coach, or for anyone but himself. His sad attempts at living through JD will frustrate him more and more as JD becomes more and more his own young man."

20,000 People March in L.A. To Demand Overturn Prop. 8!
At 6 p.m. on Saturday, thousands of people had already arrived at Sunset Junction for the protest and march, entirely blocking all of busy Sunset Blvd. Sunset Junction has great significance for the LGBT struggle. In 1967, two years before Stonewall, the LGBT community rebelled against constant police harassment and bigoted raids on gay bars. Just minutes later, the rally kicked off, chaired by Carlos Alvarez and Peta Lindsay, youth organizers with the ANSWER Coalition. The first speakers were Robin Tyler and Diane Olson, the first same-sex couple to marry legally in California. Other speakers included community leaders, out lesbian candidate for California State Assembly, Lucilla Esguerra; National Lawyers Guild-LA leader Jim Lafferty; ANSWER Coordinator Preston Wood; GENERAL HOSPITAL star Nancy Lee Grahn; West Hollywood mayor Jeffery Prang; and other same-sex couples and equal rights activists.
