New Soap Opera Digest Covers & Corday

I received the December 2nd issue of Soap Opera Digest in the mail today and, surprise, it was a subscriber-only cover. As I reported yesterday, DAYS OF OUR LIVES stars Drake Hogestyn and Deidre Hall are on the cover on newsstands. Subscribers are receiving a full Kim Zimmer (Reva, GUIDING LIGHT) cover instead.

The subscriber-only covers tend to be CBS especially ATWT and GL which rarely get a cover on newsstands. Does that mean Digest recognizes fans of those shows as their most loyal readers (the subscribers)?

Either way, the content inside is the same. You open it up and there is DAYS executive producer Ken Corday justifying his latest actions and talking about the future: "There will be other cast changes. The cast has to be pared down and all the production is going to be downsized. It's a matter of cooperation now on the cast's part. We have to downside economically first, then physcially. If they don't cooperate economically, then it will be a physical downsize or recast. No one is above recasting. No one is the center of the wheel. They're spokes."

What did he say? He goes on for a while so pick up the new SOD to read the rest.

  1. I am a digital subscriber... I received the DOOL cover on my issue.

I would love to know if they dual covers cost more (probably not much, huh?) and if they really have any impact on sales of the magazine.

  2. I have considered going digital but the subscriber cover is the main reason I haven't. I figure that some of my faves might only appear on a subscriber cover.

Not sure why the digital subscribers get the newsstand cover.

Apparently SOD's data tells them the cover really sells the magazine and that only a few "stars" sell and that's why we see the same people over and over again.
