News Brief

Laura Koffman cast as Jesse's ex on AMC

ONE LIFE TO LIVE alum Laura Koffman (ex-Cassie) has been cast as Rebecca, the woman from Jesse's (Darnell Williams) past that he recently confessed his involvement with to Angie (Debbi Morgan) on ALL MY CHILDREN. There are, however, some pertinent details that Jesse left out, and they are sure to complicate the Hubbards' marriage when Rebecca comes to Pine Valley on October 28 — and comes face-to-face with Angie.

VIDEO: HOLLYOAKS' Sutton offers students safety advice
Having dealt with Carbon Monoxide poisoning on TV, HOLLYOAKS actor James Sutton has called for UK students to guard against 'the silent killer'.

During his two years as one of Hollyoaks' most popular stars, James' character John Paul McQueen was the central figure in some hard-hitting storylines. As well as starring in an award-winning examination of homophobia, James was also the key player in a major subplot involving Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

Having researched the issue in depth for the show, James came to understand just how crucial the problem of gas safety really is, especially for young people living away from home who might not know the score about taking precautions.

RACHEL MELVIN: "Politics" is like OZ- it's always behind some curtain
"We are the generation of the future, and people take of advantage of us because so many disregard politics thinking it doesn't concern or won't affect them. Even though politics are tricky and sneaky, they become sneakier when they know they have people not paying attention. It becomes easier for them to get away with more when and if our heads our turned. This is the reason so many actors and artists use their platforms to urge you to vote, because sadly, more of the younger generation(s) pay more attention to MTV than CNN. I was admittedly one of them. But I am telling you now, I wish I hadn't been. It is extremely important to vote and be a part of this nation's future and present. So if you haven't already registered, please DO IT NOW before it's too late. In addition, if you are already registered, I ask you one favor: please find out as much information as you can before you go to the polls with your final decision. DO NOT let your idols, celebrities, friends, or even parents, convince you to vote for someone just because they are!!! Get the facts and make your own, adult, educated, and independent decision!!"

DEEP SOAP: Intelligence Report
Sara A. Bibel blogs: "Caroline Brady is a victim of Plot Induced Stupidity, in which intelligent characters are dumbed down to service the plot. This is not just a DAYS OF OUR LIVES problem. Everyone in Llanview knows that Jessica suffered from DID. Everyone has noticed she’s acting strange. Yet only Todd figured out that her alter Tess has returned. On THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS Cane dumped Lily, the woman he loves, to marry Chloe because he’s convinced she’s pregnant with his child solely on the basis of a preliminary DNA test that indicates there’s a possibility he’s the father. A soap storyline shouldn’t make the audience yell, 'You’re all a bunch of morons!' on a regular basis. Plots that hinge on character stupidity represent a failure if imagination. There is always a plausible way to get from Point A to Point Z on a soap. But it may require the sort of intense planning and complicated structural engineering that‘s difficult to do when the network is micromanaging every episode."

Watlington writes Twin Lenses
The title of the documentary Twin Lenses has nothing to do with the two people from very different backgrounds who made the movie.

The 25-minute film—which will be screened during the Hamptons International Film Festival next week—is about the iconic female photographers who helped pioneer the advancement of women in the world of fashion and magazine photography.

The producer and director of Twin Lenses is Nina Rosenblum and the writer is Dennis Watlington (who previously wrote scripts for OLTL and GH). The collaboration on this and previous projects has brought together two people who have had very different life and career experiences.
