News Brief

An unusual 'I do' on AS THE WORLD TURNS
Emily asks the much younger Casey to marry her today on AS THE WORLD TURNS setting off a chain of events that lands her in the hospital.

THAAO PENGHLIS: "Exhausting week"
"What an exhausting week, I think there's a good show for Stefano and Tony on Aug 11.
Everyone I know survived the earthquake. It certainly shook everyone at the studio. Leann is working well too. Its been Quite an intense story and loved working agai with Drake and Deidre."

PATRICK ERWIN: Do You Love or Hate it When Soaps Repeat Their Histories?
"Each of the eight daytime soaps on American network TV these days has a substantial history. THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL is the youngest at 21, GUIDING LIGHT the eldest at 71. Collectively, this is a rich history. And I’m all for calling on the past to inform current storylines.

But there’s a curious trend emerging this summer, and I’m not sure what to make of it. A few shows have gone beyond revisiting history — they actually seem to be reliving the stories in a way we haven’t really seen before."

RACHEL MELVIN: All across the USA
"I came back to LA, worked for two days, then flew out to New York, my first solo trip ever. It was completely awesome! I had been to NY once before with a friend for New Years during the winter, which I still enjoyed regardless of the cold climate, and this was my first time back since. I swear to God, I am in love with that city and need to spend the rest of my life there."

Danny Trejo to appear on Y&R
Danny Trejo makes his daytime debut on CBS' THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS August 11. Trejo plays a bartender who encounters mogul Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) in Mexico.

REVIEW: EASTENDERS Wedding
Jemma Dobson writes: "In Walford weddings it’s customary for the bride or groom to go awol just before the nuptials and Sean didn’t disappoint. He admitted his true fear — that their baby could end up like his mum. Hasn’t he forgotten something even more worrying? The baby could end up like him — a fate far worse, I’m sure.

But, of course, after all the drama he made it just in time to tie the knot when Ronnie burst through the church doors at the 11th hour with some scandalous news to shock the congregation. Is this really original? I think not. I want to know, why does it have to be the same old thing every time we have a wedding in soap land? I can’t wait for a glitch-free fairytale wedding. It will make such a nice change."

ON THIS DAY IN 1984: Jermaine Jackson and Whitney Houston sang on AS THE WORLD TURNS

TOM CASIELLO: Time for a Break
"As of last night, I was completely disgusted with this industry, and the usual spin that managed to compeltely discredit a behind-the-scenes issue that is VERY important to me, and ABSOLUTELY held at least a few grains of truth to it., whether people want to believe it or not."

Best. Gay. Week. Ever.
Michael Jensen at AfterElton takes a look at the week in soaps. AS THE WORLD TURNS gets a down arrow, NIGHT SHIFT and FORBIDDEN LOVE are neutral while HOLLYOAKS gets rave reviews for the week.

"HOLLYOAKS is the hands down winner here by giving us a nice mix of the John Paul/Kieron storyline that throws fairly interesting roadblocks in their way without dragging them out forever."
