News Brief

Soap Dish: B&B's Forresters try to chop down patriarch
Eric lands in the hospital Friday on THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL after a particularly vicious battle with his kids - and raucous sex with his new young wife.

"Eric has a heart attack," says John McCook, who plays the Forrester patriarch. "After some intimacy, sweet Donna is talking to him and he doesn't respond."

Donna calls 911, and paramedics rush Eric to the hospital. Bridget orders tests, and the family gathers at his bedside.

"What's scary about this is that it coincides with Ridge and the Forrester progeny trying to take over the company and let Eric go," says McCook.

ONE LIFE TO LIVE spin-off in works
Watch out, GENERAL HOSPITAL: NIGHT SHIFT SoapNet is eyeing plans to spin-off nighttime versions of ONE LIFE TO LIVE and, possibly, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS.

ABC Daytime President Brian Frons told reporters at an OLTL press conference today that he and SoapNet have been in talks to develop a spin-off of OLTL for primetime. Concepts are being tossed around, but nothing firm has been settled. Among the rumored ideas: Taking police detective John McBain (Michael Easton) and following him on a case. OLTL marks its 40th anniversary next week with a series of special episodes that pay tribute (at least in the storylines) to the show's most popular stories.

SoapNet is also mulling the idea of spin-off characters from "Y&R," though no ground work for that has been laid at this point.

"General Hospital: Nightshift" -- a spin-off of "General Hospital" -- is the most successful original series in SoapNet history. The premiere night episode brought a million viewers to the channel last season. "Nightshift" returns for season 2 on Tuesday night.

Kelly Ripa Hubby Mark Consuelos: I'm No Regis Philbin!
The chemistry is combustible whenever he guest-hosts alongside wife Kelly Ripa, but don’t expect Mark Consuelos to fill Regis Philbin’s shoes when the 76-year-old Live With Regis and Kelly host retires. "I’m just not that good," Mark tells In Touch in an interview this week. he certainly doesn't appear to want to be a permanent Regis Philbin.
