News Brief

SAG/AMPTP On Hold Until AFTRA Result
Nikki Finke blogs: "I'm told that SAG and the AMPTP are still exchanging info over that new 'last best final' offer submitted by the Big Media companies. But let's not be coy: the Screen Actors Guild seems to be understandably playing for time until the results of the AFTRA contract ratification vote are announced. The counting should be done by Tuesday evening, and an announcement could come close behind or by the latest Wednesday morning. So everyone's watching and waiting for the results that could change the entire nature of these actor-employer negotiations."

Will Ryan Nikole Parker be Alice in Tim Burton’s Wonderland?

BLOG UPDATE: Tom Casiello
On THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL's rumored revamp: "I have no idea what B&B has planned - if it involves re-painting the sets, or a total overhaul like GL did. But whatever they have planned, good or bad, big or small, I'm so glad they're not making a big deal out of it. Hype can completely destroy something before it's even made it to air, and we see it over and over again in this industry. I'm convinced that part of the excitment over Hogan's first year at ATWT stemmed from everyone expecting the worst from yet another 'soap newbie' penning Marland's Masterpiece after Black and Stern; so when it ended up being fairly entertaining and enjoyable, Hogan got more hype than any one person deserves... which eventually led to his downfall, because who can possibly live up to said hype?"

Carlisle resident returns from OLTL cameo
It was with amusement that some of Carolyn Carns’ friends found that she hadn’t been nominated for a Daytime Emmy. She had, after all, been on ONE LIFE TO LIVE for only a few minutes, in the background of a shot in a diner. But in that short amount of time, the Carlisle resident and SOAPnet competition winner had learned a lot about how the soap opera works.

"It was much quicker moving than I thought it was going to be," Carns said. "It’s not like a movie, where they can shoot a scene today and tomorrow. They were shooting the diner scene where I was, and also shooting two other scenes at the same time. They have to keep moving."

Carns was the grand finalist of SOAPnet's "I Wanna Be a Soap Star" competition that started at Disney World last November, giving her the chance to be an extra on the soap opera.

Live soap opera coming to Harmony Square
There's a new newspaper in town -- and it promises to deliver the inside scoop on the downtown. The Harmony Expose will be launched Wednesday, as a noontime soap opera called AS THE SQUARE TURNS kicks off on the Bell Stage in Harmony Square. Presented by Talk of the Town Productions, the weekly live performance is meant to entertain lunchers as they relax in the downtown gathering place.

"It's something new and exciting for people," promises Deano Wilson Rouse, artistic director of the local troupe known for successful presentations of Cinderella, Pirates Take Paris and other musical-comedy shows. She was asked to create the soap opera by Lori-Dawn Cavin, community events co-ordinator for the parks and recreation department.

The story revolves around aging star Devina Devine, who comes back to her hometown to open a new newspaper with financial backing from her "millionaire boy-toy," portrayed by Talk of the Town regular Adrian Gorrissen.

CORRIE star Kym Marsh 'torn between ex-husband Jack and new man Jamie'
CORONATION STREET star Kym Marsh has been caught in a real-life soap love triangle. The actress, 32, has started dating HOLLYOAKS actor Jamie Lomas after splitting from former EASTENDERS star Jack Ryder. Despite announcing the end of their six year marriage in March, 26-year-old Ryder reportedly wants to give it another try.
