Kim Zimmer to do cameo in college soap

Kean University's new soap opera, "Union," a television drama being filmed by and for Kean students, will have a daytime soap flair.

The eight-episode show will begin airing this spring on KU3, Kean University's television station, and on the school's Web site, offering classic soap opera themes like love, lust and betrayal, while allowing students to earn academic credit and build their portfolios, school officials say.

Not only do students get a chance to write, act and film. They also get to work with accomplished network director AC Weary, veteran soap writer Louisa Burns-Bisogno, and Kim Zimmer, the star of the CBS daytime drama "Guiding Light," who will do a cameo on "Union."

"We are bringing in professionals so these students can have access to the real working world," said John Wooten, producing artistic director of Premiere Stages, Kean's professional equity theater. "They're getting the skills so that when they go apply to a studio, they will have a leg up. It makes them more employable."
