Kassie DePaiva: 'I Feel So Much More Freedom'

Kassie DePaiva and Roger Howarth
ONE LIFE TO LIVE actress Kassie DePaiva opened up about Prospect Park's new version of the show in a new interview for Carolyn Hinsey's TAINTED DREAMS blog.

"[Prospect Park's] Rich Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz want this to be successful," DePaiva said. "They watch every scene. They are very hands-on and very appreciative. After working under the umbrella of a network for so long, I feel so much more freedom. They are really grateful and say ‘Thank you.’ Not that ABC wasn’t grateful, but it was a machine."

"We were so used to being the red-headed stepchild at OLTL; now we’re the gem in the crown. It’s nice. One actress – I won’t tell you which one – said, ‘It’s like having an abusive boyfriend that you didn’t know was abusive until you dated a nice guy.’ For the last 25 years I feel like I’ve been fighting to keep these soaps on the air. Now, it’s a fresh start."

DePaiva also previewed Blair's upcoming scenes with Todd (Roger Howarth).

[SPOILER ALERT]

"Todd comes back to town because of a family issue," she explained, "and Blair and Todd pick up where they left off. They have a lot of unfinished business, a lot of rich history to pull from. Fans need to know that [head writer] Susie Bedsow Horgan was producing OLTL during the ‘Golden Balloon’ wedding, and she honors that."

  1. Well ABC was an Abusive Boyfriend so to speak..AMC got the most abuse.. had to up root their lives and move.. I'm so happy prospect Park never gave up. and the actors are happy working for them. I love that they hired people who are excited about the soaps as much as the fans.. Thank You Prospect..

    1. ITA ABC was totally off the hook & controlling! So glad with our fight, we now can watch again!

  2. AMC didn't really the get the "abuse" until the end. OLTL was constantly treated like a step kid they couldn't be bothered with.

  3. Like I said on the article itself....we, the fans, were the neighbors rallying to save our 'abused' friends and family from PA. AND WE WON! They are in 'foster' care now with Prospect Park...hopefully to be 'adopted' by a whole new generation of fans! WELCOME BACK

(and can we not get into an AMC vs OLTL debate here, please?)

  4. I am so glad Kassie -- like Susan Lucci -- isn't sweeping the abuse under the rug, and speaking up.

I can't wait to watch these shows on my TV. Went out and bought a Roku box for my HuluPlus. Granted, it cost $120, it was well worth it and it means I won't have to watch my soaps on my PC screen but can lay in bed and use my remote control and watch on my TV at my leisure. This is gonna be sweet!!!!

  6. Only wish that Roger was coming back to stay. I am broken hearted that he is only there to visit. I hope that PP clears him of Victor's non-murder quickly so he can return for good.

  7. I am very much thrilled that OLTL is coming back. The core of the actors and characters that I enjoyed are returning which is fantastic. We need to watch and support the new format.
