30 Dynamic Duos of Daytime Soaps (30-26)

We counted down the 50 Greatest Soap Opera Couples, but what about the other duos?  There have been some twosomes that may have gotten romantic on occasion but are better known for being the best of friends, bitter rivals, or somewhere in between.  We have compiled a list of the 30 Great Dynamic Duos of Daytime Soaps to help us relive some of these fantastic memories from years gone by.  With input from our staff as well as some friends in the industry--Patrick Erwin, Jonathan Reiner and Connie Passalacqua Hayman (Marlena De Lacroix).  Below are Dynamic Duos 30-26.  Tell us your favorite Dynamic Duos in the Comments section below:

DUO: Iris Wheeler & Vivien Gorrow
SHOW: ANOTHER WORLD/TEXAS
RANK: 30
PLAYED BY:
Iris: Beverlee, McKinsey, Carmen Duncan
Vivien: Gretchen Oehler
YEARS: 1978-1981, 1988-1990
COMMENT:
"Drawing room humor came to Bay City in a big way, thanks to the famously well-written scenes featuring Iris and her maid. They weren't exactly Thelma & Louise, but they did bring a unique dynamic to AW, and helped the viewer better understand -- and identify with -- Iris's internal struggle." - Jonathan Reiner

DUO: Scotty Baldwin & Heather Webber
SHOW: GENERAL HOSPITAL
RANK: 29
PLAYED BY:
Scott: Kin Shriner
Heather: Robin Mattson
YEARS: 1980-1983
COMMENT:
"Partners in crimes whose chemistry and real-life friendship translated to pure gold on screen.  It would be great to see a reunion on the GH of today." - Roger Newcomb

DUO: Kendall Hart & Greenlee Smythe
SHOW: ALL MY CHILDREN
RANK: 28
PLAYED BY:
Kendall: Alicia Minshew
Greenlee: Rebecca Budig
YEARS: 2002-2011
COMMENT:
"Their friendship took a few serious hits, but these two always came back around to each other. Both characters were cautious around other women, but saw a kindred spirit - and a shared wardrobe - in the other." - Patrick Erwin

DUO: Stephanie Forrester & Sally Spectra
SHOW: THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
RANK: 27
PLAYED BY:
Stephanie: Susan Flannery
Sally: Darlene Conley
YEARS: 1989-2006
COMMENT:
"Stephanie battled with Sally, but unlike her angry battles with Brooke, the Sally/Stephanie fights were a battle of wits and of cleverness, and both always relished the experience. Sally cutting Stephanie’s hair - drunkenly - was a classic moment." - Patrick Erwin

DUO: Vanessa (Van) & Margaret (Meg) Dale
SHOW: LOVE OF LIFE
RANK: 26
PLAYED BY:
Van: Peggy McCay, Bonnie Bartlett, Audrey Peters
Meg: Jean McBride, Tudi Wiggins
YEARS: 1951-1958, 1974-1980
COMMENT:
"[Meg] was made out to be a terrible lover, and person. And being perfect, as [Van] was, I forgave her and got on with it, no matter what. Actually as actors, I liked her (Jean McBride) and she liked me." - Peggy McCay (LOVE OF LIFE's original Van) in our recent interview.

  1. I will never forget that Sally-Stephanie scene. And so happy to see Iris-Vivien in the list.

  2. Why do the Bold & the Beautiful and Love of Life have 1982-1999 as Years?? I'm pretty sure B&B didn't start until 1987 and I've never seen Love of Life in its heyday but I'm pretty sure it was off the air before I was born.

  3. Okay after Todd/Blair got snubbed for the couples list, i will scream bloody murder if Viki/Dorian aren't on this list.

  4. Hmmm...I suspect many repeat actors actors on this list! Susan Flannery as Stephanie Forrester will likely return to the list (in the Top Ten) in a duo with Katherine Kelly Lang as Brooke Logan.

Robin Mattson as Gina and Justin Deas as Keith on Santa Barbara will show up (I cannot remember if they were on the greatest couples list.)

    I vote for:

    Cass & Felicia (AW)

    Erica & Mona (AMC)

    Jill & Katherine (Y&R)
    Jack & Victor (Y&R)

    Viki & Dorian (OLTL)
    Todd & Evangeline (OLTL)
    Max & Gabrielle (OLTL)
    Dorian & David (OLTL)

    Billy & Hamp (GL)
    Jonathan & Tammy (GL)
    Phillip & Rick (GL)

    Roman & Abe (DAYS)

    Lucky & Liz (GH)

  6. Great to see this initiative. Also thrilled to find Iris and Vivien from Another World / Texas on this list. Would vote for Cass and Felicia from Another World as the number one duo, but would also throw in an additional vote for Texas. The unlikely friendship / partnership which developed between Lurlene Harper and Ruby Wright made that show a lot of fun to watch.

  7. Ruby and Lurlene were the Lucy and Ethel of Daytime!! They made Texas so much fun to watch!! Hope they made the list.

And while Iris and Vivian were a lot of fun, Iris' original maid was Louise Goddard. They had a fun dynamic too. Louise used to talk to her houseplants, even giving them individual names. When Iris got mad at Louise, she would pinch the leaves or snip the buds off the plants just so she could watch Louise's reaction.
