Melissa Claire Egan Leaving 'The Young and the Restless'

Actress Melissa Claire Egan has decided to leave CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless, where she has played Chelsea for the past six years.

Egan confirmed her imminent exit from the show in a Twitter post.

"After much thought and six wonderful years, I have decided to leave The Young & The Restless," she wrote. “I love this show (and this genre) so very much, and am so grateful to this amazing crew and cast, especially my beyond wonderful Josh Morrow [Nick]. This cast, crew, and everyone behind the scenes at Sony and CBS are truly the best at what they do and are my family. To you incredible fans, thank you for EVERYTHING. This isn’t goodbye. Truly. Just goodbye for now. All my love, Melissa."

There is no word yet on her final airdate.

Daytime Confidential's Jamey Giddens broke the news earlier this week. Giddens' week also included his first Indie Series Award nomination, for writing The Rich and the Ruthless with former Y&R star Victoria Rowell.
