COMMENTS FROM THE PANEL:
Connie Passalacqua Hayman (Marlena De Lacroix): His Mason Capwell on SANTA BARBARA was a daytime classic. Part Shakespearean hero (that diction), part primary representative of the weirdness and personal eccentricities of Bridget and Jerome Dobson (who created and wrote the show), Lane was never less than divine as Mason. He and Nancy Grahn as the ultra intelligent, ever battling Mason and Julia were among the best daytime couples ever.
Alan Carter: Even when the show was dreadful, and it often was, Lane Davies brought magic to the screen as the snotty, snooty Capwell heir.
Patrick Erwin: Davies brought Mason Capwell, one of the smartest, most complex characters ever to grace our TV screens, to life. His strong, uncompromising take on Mason made SB must-see.
COMMENTS FROM CO-STARS/CO-WORKERS/INDUSTRY:
Louise Sorel: (worked with Davies on SANTA BARBARA) Lane Davies and I worked on SANTA BARBARA and I also played Gertrude to his Hamlet. He has always been a theater person and devoted to his craft, as well as a wonderful, funny talent and sweet human. We spent time studying French in the South of France. He's very special.
I believe that Santa Barbara has never been a show "dreadful".
ReplyDeleteEven at times when quality was a bit 'blurred,it was always higher and brighter than the other shows and their highest moments.
Dear, Alan Carter;)
...... And still I think it's a real injustice had not awarded with an Emmy actors like Lane Davies and Robin Wright.
ReplyDeleteLane Davies was never even nominated ....
but the list is too long ...
Lane was not someone who came to mind for me when I was thinking about this list. My bad. He was sensational on Santa Barbara. Good choice!
ReplyDeleteDidn't he do a few episodes of DALLAS, as a lawyer of some sort, during the fight for Ewing Oil?
ReplyDeletelane once said in an interview that he never wanted to be nominated for an emmy. he didn't believe in the system.
ReplyDeletehe belongs in the top 10 list tho... santa barbara and the soap world in general wouldn't be the same without him.
Hi!
ReplyDeleteEdenFan, couldn't agree more!
To me, Lane is one of the greatest actors - period! And I've seen a great many actors to know :0)
I wouldn't put anyone next to him - daytime, primetime, or movies! He's the best! And I haven't even seen him on stage - yet. I am sure that he's sensational as a theater actor!
Number doesn't really matter, I guess. I am glad he is on the list - compare to others, he hasn't done that much soaps.
Kudos!
