CLASSIC GL PHOTOS OF THE DAY: Radio Days

The We Love Soaps photo tribute to GUIDING LIGHT continues with a look at some of the radio stars that helped launch the legendary soap. Pictured above is Arthur Peterson who played Reverend Rutledge.

Mercedes McCambridge was an original cast member who played heroine Mary Rutledge. She died in 2004. McCambridge won the 1949 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in All The King's Men. Many years later she would play the dubbed-in voice for Linda Blair's character in The Exorcist.

Laurette Fillbrandt was part of the radio cast in the 1940s.

Charita Bauer was cast as Bert Bauer while GUIDING LIGHT was still on radio. She crossed over to television and played the role until her death in 1985.

Thanks to Rob Wargo for the photos.
