News Round-up: Apps, Bierdz, Shields, Berlanti

Apps a nail in coffin of broadcast mobile TV
As Facebook and Twitter disrupt business models for mainstream media -- and on the platform that's a lifestyle statement for young adults -- the one-size-fits-all approach of broadcast mobile TV got stuck before it even properly took off.

"It is a financial disaster," said John Strand, a consultant who has followed the mobile industry closely for more than 12 years. "It's a nice product, but the customers won't pay for it."

Reality Shocker: N.J. REAL HOUSEWIVES Do Series for Free, Pay Bravo 10% of Post-Show Earnings
According to a contract given to participants, the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” don’t get paid to appear on the hit Bravo show. Adding insult to injury, according to a contract signed by one cast member, participants have to pay Bravo 10% of “any and all gross income … unrelated to the Series” that they bring in for up to four years after the last episode airs.

Deep Soap: Keep It In The Closet
Sara Bibel writes: "On THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, Phillip finally confessed what fans who read spoilers had known for months, that he faked his death so he could live as an openly gay man. Phillip’s dialogue was powerful. Unfortunately, Thom Bierdz is quite rusty. He does not fully convey Phillip’s inner torment, at times making him seem smug and unrepentant. But it was impossible not to watch those scenes without thinking of how closely they parallel Bierdz’s own life story."

Brooke Shields finally gets Vengeance
After a 10-year hiatus from mainstream movies, Brooke Shields is returning to the big screen, coming aboard Summit and Participant Media live-action family comedy Furry Vengeance.

BROTHERS & SISTERS preview
The premiere will pick up roughly three months after the finale, but little has changed: Kitty and Robert's marriage remains in train-wreck mode, Sarah is still playing the field, Nora is preparing for her weekly party from hell, and another Walker sib wants a baby.

Greg Berlanti: "I call ABC the grown up WB"
The BROTHERS & SISTERS producer says: "When I was at The WB, it was: What is a 16-year-old girl gonna like about the story? Now it's: What is the 36 year-old woman gonna like about the story?"

GOSSIP GIRL hookup
There will be a controversial hookup early on in season 3. And one of the participants of said controversial hookup will be Dan.

Oprah to host a BRADY BUNCH reunion - minus Jan
Eve Plumb won't attend the September gathering because of the lesbian rumor Maureen McCormick started several years ago, according to McCormick. "All of us said yes except for one person, Eve Plumb, who used to be my best friend but now apparently wants to distance herself from the show and, most troubling, from me," says McCormick.

  1. The Real Housewives of NJ not only don't receive any income from Bravo but they also have to pay Bravo? Why would anyone be that desperate to be on the show?

No wonder networks want to dump scripted fiction reality fair. Some how, I doubt the cast of "The Hills" are as brain dead or desperate as the New Jersey wives.
