SOAPnet has announced continued growth in its primetime ratings with the release of the May 2009 Nielsen numbers.
Prime (M-Su, 8:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.)
Powered by record or near-record deliveries for ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE, May ‘09 wrapped as SOAPnet’s most-watched May in the net’s history in key Women 18-49 (142,000), and third-most-watched month ever, climbing by a solid 27% over year-ago levels (112,000 - May ‘08).
◦ In Total Viewers (361,000), May ‘09 qualified as the net’s most-watched May, increasing by 15% year to year (vs. 313,000 - May ‘08).
ALL MY CHILDREN (M-F, 8:00-9:00 p.m.)
◦ ALL MY CHILDREN generated the show’s second-largest monthly audience of all time on SOAPnet in May ‘09 in Women 18-49 (193,000), falling just shy of February ’05’s record (201,000.) In Total Viewers (464,000), May ‘09 also wrapped as the show’s top-ranked May ever, and fifth-most-watched month ever.
◦ Impressively, in the 2008/09 season to date, ALL MY CHILDREN has recorded its five biggest monthly Total Viewer audiences ever on the network: March ‘09 (500,000), April ‘09 (485,000), November ‘08 (466,000), October ‘08 (465,000) and May ‘05 (464).
◦ Versus year-ago levels, ALL MY CHILDREN climbed by an impressive 42% in Total Viewers (464,000 vs. 327,000) and by 80% in Women 18-49 (193,000 vs. 107,000).
ONE LIFE TO LIVE (M-F, 9:00-10:00 p.m.)
◦ Growing its audience for the fifth straight month, May ‘09 ranked as ONE LFIE TO LIVE's most-watched month ever in core Women 18-49 (179,000), up by a substantial 33% year to year (135,000 - May ‘08).
◦ In Total Viewers, 2008/09 season to date, ONE LIFE TO LIVE has delivered the series’ 3 largest Total Viewer monthly audiences on record: April ‘05 (460,000), November ‘08 (446,000) and May ‘09 (445,000).
◦ In Total Viewers, ONE LIFE TO LIVE delivered its largest May audience ever on SOAPnet (445,000), and third biggest overall, jumping by 14% over year-ago levels (392,000 - May ‘08).

Roger, do you or any of your readers know how much these numbers have an impact on the survival of AMC or OLTL? In the main ratings they seem to be bleeding, but these numbers make them appear to be still alive and kicking.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that helps the ABC/Disney shows is that they are owned by the network, which is the same company that owns SOAPnet. So the profits stay in house versus being split with Sony, P&G or some other production company.
ReplyDeleteI think for shows that air on SOAPnet, especially the ABC shows, you have to just add in the viewers from SOAPnet into the total viewers. They are still making money off these shows.
