News Round-up

John O'Hurley on his time on soaps
"I started in opera and Broadway then went down into television. The high pressure of doing soap operas is that you have a lot of words and a short time to get them out. They move very quickly. You have to develop a short term memory that you have to pick up the dialog very quickly. But the second you finish you can’t remember a blessed word. I remember there was a glitch one day and we had to re-shoot a scene and I couldn’t remember a single word.

Doing soap operas also taught me how to be still on camera because the slightest noise can be heard. Because you are dealing with extreme close-ups it teaches you to work from a sense of honesty with your character."

Hulu Yanks Content from TV.com, the Race Begins
Hulu has pulled its content from rival television content portal TV.com, CNET has confirmed. Hulu’s decision to do so comes at a time when TV.com is on the rise, and Hulu must brace a potentially exclusive-less future.

According to Nielsen, since TV.com relaunched to become more of a video portal, its unique viewers jumped 263 percent in January. Ad Age reports TV.com’s 5.9 million unique visitors in January is actually greater than the 4.5 million unique visitors Hulu received during that same month. However, Hulu still dwarfs TV.com when it comes to videos (and accompanying ads) being watched; the site served 7.2 million unique video views in January, compared with roughly 250,000 on TV.com.

Ranking the Monday episodes

To top it all off, it was 'Valentine’s Day observed' on soaps. So, which shows took advantage of the opportunity to get a few lapsed viewers back? Which ones sent viewers scurrying to LAW & ORDER reruns?" Sara A. Bibel thought Y&R was the best.

Nielsen: Five Million Homes Remain Unready for DTV Transition
Nielsen said Wednesday that more that five million homes, or about 4.4% of the total, remain unready for the DTV transition. That was down from 5.8 million homes (5.1%) that Nielsen concluded weren't ready at the beginning of the month, and from 6.5 million (5.7%) in mid-January. Albuquerque-Santa Fe is the least prepared, says Nielsen, with 12% completely unready.
