News Round-up

CORRIE actor Roache thanks public for condolences
CORONATION STREET legend Bill Roache has given his thanks for messages of support sent following the death of his wife Sara. The 76-year-old soap veteran fought back tears as he paid tribute to his "perfect wife" during her memorial service in Cheshire on Tuesday.

More than 250 people including fellow Corrie actors and stars from the worlds of sport, politics and showbusiness gathered at St Bartholomew's Church in Wilmslow to pay their respects to the 58-year-old.

Roache said the couple's children William and Verity had drawn "great comfort and strength" from the dozens of cards and messages sent by well-wishers. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been in touch to express their condolences and offer their support."

On the Soap Shrink’s Couch: ONE LIVE TO LIVE’s Todd Manning
Damon L. Jacobs writes: "What do you call someone who is capable of committing abhorrent crimes against others? What do you call a man who can rape another person, attack a blind woman, lie to his own wife that their newborn is dead, kidnap a woman who is presumed dead by her friends and family, and then plot to fake his own grand child’s death? If you live in ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Llanview, you call that man Todd Manning."

ONE LIFE TO LIVE reference not too far off
A columnist in the Chicago Daily Herald wrote today: "Considering A-Rod's squandered credibility, it seemed he would leave the media tent, go straight to the set of ONE LIFE TO LIVE and play the illegitimate son of a formerly Asian man turned African-American who died but returned on a UFO with wings from a '59 Chevy."

I think guy was just trying to create some ridiculous soap situation and throw A-Rod into it. But since OLTL has had a character changes races before (Blair went from Asian to Caucasian) it's not that far-fetched.

INTERVIEW: OLTL's Catherine Hickland (Lindsay)
"The Prison Fellowship Ministry, out of Houston, is just an amazing organization that goes into maximum-security prisons. They asked if I would be interested in coming along and talking to the girls, and I said, 'When, where, what time? I'll be there.' It's the best thing I've ever done, and I am continuing my work with that as much as possible."

ATWT's Luke and Noah in French magazine
A blurb about Luke and Noah finally having sex appears in the new issue of gay French mag TĂȘtu.

Chris Eyre finds a new creative outlet
Multi-award winning Native American director/producer Chris Eyre brings an indie director's sensibility to prime time television in the third season of NBC's FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. Eyre directed the seventh episode of FNL entitled "Keeping Up Appearances," which will air on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009. The loose style, spontaneity and free-flowing camerawork of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS was uniquely suited to Eyre's senses that are based in human drama, comedy and spirit, as seen in numerous feature films from Smoke Signals through Edge of America.

  1. re the a-rod reference, it was also hard to disagree when he said,

"Seriously, what did I have better to do Tuesday, tune in 'As the World Turns"? No, I was going to watch Rodriguez be injected with another dose of public humiliation.'"
