Matt Bomer (left) and Tuc Watkins will star in the limited Broadway
production of "The Boys in the Band."
Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, and Matt Bomer will star in a limited Broadway engagement of "The Boys in the Band," directed by two-time Tony winner Joe Mantello. Mart Crowley’s groundbreaking 1968 play is scheduled to play the Booth Theatre April 30–August 12, 2018. The production, from Ryan Murphy and veteran Broadway producer David Stone, marks the comedic drama's Broadway premiere.

Each of the four is an alum of Murphy's TV ventures. Parsons, Quinto , Rannells, and Bomer (Ben Reade on Guiding Light) will take on the roles of Michael, Harold, Larry, and Donald, respectively, on stage.

The cast will also include Tony nominee Robin De Jesús as Emory, Brian Hutchison as Alan, Michael Benjamin Washington as Bernard, and Tuc Watkins (David Vickers on One Life to Live) as Hank. The role of Cowboy remains to be cast.

In The Boys in the Band, a group of gay men gather in a New York City apartment for a friend’s birthday party. As the evening continues, the cracks beneath their friendships begin to show, exposing the self-inflicted heartache that threatens their solidarity.

Ticketing information and complete design team will be announced in the coming weeks.

Is The Bold and the Beautiful casting Ivy's mother?
B&B sent out a casting notice for “Claire,” a recurring role for a, “strong, beautiful woman who is 50-60 — and must be Australian.” When asked over the summer about the possibility of casting her TV mother, Ashleigh Brewer (Ivy) quipped, “That would be great. We actually spoke of her yesterday on the show. We said that she was in Australia and doesn’t like getting on planes very much, so we’re going to have to figure out how to get her here. Maybe we can shoot a cruise or something?” The role is expected to begin taping in two weeks.

Mary Beth Evans and Stephen Nichols reveal all to Glamour about life on Days of our Lives
Nichols: "They originally wrote the role as recurring. [Steve was] someone that was going to come in and stir up a bunch of trouble for Bo. There was a dude at NBC at the time that said, 'Why don't we get a character like Falcon Eddie on Rich Man, Poor Man...a guy with a patch.' That's where the idea came from!"

Evans: "I hadn't really seen the show, and there was Stephen in his leather jacket with his scar and patch, and I was this goody-two shoes, and I'm thinking, 'This is weird.' [Laughs] But we had a great connection from the start!"

Shonda Rhimes: Bill Cosby did not inspire this week's episode of Scandal
An acclaimed professor was found to have drugged and raped scores of women on Thursday's episode, but Cosby didn’t serve as inspiration. “I don’t need the Cosby scandal to inspire me to tell a story about rape,” says Rhimes. "As if that is the only instance in which rape is relevant. Somewhere in America, a woman is raped every two minutes. Every two minutes. Let’s not diminish or insult the stories of these survivors by suggesting that I could only decide to tell a story about rape because of a celebrity scandal.”

At the Nashville season 3 key arttime, this good old boy from Arkansas enjoyed the thrills of fame – partying and women – and acquired a legion of loyal fans, captivated by his genuine sound and authentic storytelling. However, everything changed when Riff met Heidi, a Southern beauty with a budding musical career of her own. He fell head over boots in love and chose what none of his contemporaries was willing to do – leave it all behind – farm over fortune, the family over fame. Riff and Heidi would join the show’s leading music couple, Rayna (Connie Britton) and Deacon (Charles Esten).

Dan Pfeiffer, who was the White House's communications strategist up until earlier this year, tells how staffers had to monitor all the TV show comments about the president. Do Netflix and Amazon shows have too much creative freedom?
While traditional broadcast and cable networks are known to meddle with their shows, it seems like there isn’t enough meddling done on the two big streaming services. As Maureen Ryan notes, "I think Netflix and Amazon executives give their creative types a lot of rope, and I’ve often had occasion to wonder is they’re giving them too much rope. It’s common for their dramas to get tangled up and slow down, even at the pilot stage, and in the middle of seasons, Netflix dramas often sag and meander, and ... they take a long time to work up a head of steam.”

NEWS: Tuc Watkins, Charles Shaughnessy, Julian Fellowes, Mark Valley

Daddy Dearest: Soap Star Tuc Watkins Has One Life To Live & Two Kids To Love
Aside from the obvious obstacles a gay man might face in the pursuit of fatherhood, there were other considerations like how, when, and with whom. Watkins (David Vickers on One Life to Live) said he had been in some relationships, some that were very good, but he didn’t want to create a family in a relationship or enter into a relationship that wasn’t true simply for the sake of having children. So doing it alone was something to consider.

“I saw adoption as an option and fostering as an option. And, then a couple of my friends entertained the idea of surrogacy. And, then I started learning about it and checked out some service agencies online, and I thought, ‘I think this is for me.’ That was for me.”

Days of our Lives and Another World alum Mark Valley to recur during second season of Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce

Primetime Emmy campaigning goes into overdrive for TV actors and producers
“It’s a little bit like a political campaign,” says Masters of Sex executive producer Michelle Ashford. “I’m shocked that it has gotten to this level. I’ve been on a lot of panels this year.” Adds star Lizzy Caplan: “I imagine it would be really sh–ty if you didn’t like talking about your show.”

Excellent, Elegant 'My Fair Lady' Graces the Stage at Theatre by the Sea
"Charles Shaughnessy heads the cast in a starring turn as Professor Henry Higgins. Though Shaughnessy is more popularly known for his work in television (Days of our Lives, The Nanny), he is clearly at home and entirely in his element on stage. His performance is energized and commanding, from Higgins' opening line in Covent Garden to the final strains of 'I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face.'"

How Pedro, 'Ellen,' 'Will & Grace' and other gay TV icons helped pave the way for same-sex marriage
"Gay characters, and openly-gay performers, didn't suddenly take over television, but they were present in far greater numbers than ever before, in virtually every type of programming available. Those shows not only made straight viewers more familiar and comfortable with gay culture, but inspired many gay men and women in their audiences to come out to the world around them."

Melody Thomas Scott on what makes Nikki Newman so fascinating after 35 years

NEWS: Tuc Watkins; Corbin Bernsen; Brant Daugherty; GENERATIONS Stops Filming; BEACON HILL; America Ferrera; Is KATIE on the Way Out?

Is KATIE on the Way Out?
Katie Couric's KATIE has never delivered the audience levels Disney/ABC's syndication arm promised to the TV stations that pay high fees to carry it. Syndication executives who hear the complaints of unhappy TV station owners say that KATIE is a goner. The show will make it to a third year only if Disney/ABC and Couric agree to take less money from the stations that carry it (she currently earns $10 million a year).

People close to Couric say money is less important to her than being happy with the final product. If KATIE doesn't make it to next season, ABC stations will need to find a replacement for the hour.

It's an arrangement that was supposed to be for a month or two but is working out so well that the actor jokes he hopes to keep his cousin on the payroll until the twins go off to college.

"My kids are 10 months old now which means they are crawling," Watkins said. "Not only are they crawling – it’s like they’ve got little jet packs on their backs and of course go in opposite directions."

ALL MY CHILDREN & ONE LIFE TO LIVE News Roundup

Can Online Shows Be Habit-Forming? Soaps May Provide Some Clues
Back in 1994, one Kaiser Family Foundation study found that viewing was highest in young women (18-29) and older women (50 and over). But Reuters reported that as of the end of ALL MY CHILDREN's run on ABC, the median viewer age was 57. Hulu, on the other hand, has a younger viewer base — earlier in April, it was reported to have an average age of 38.

So the challenge for Hulu is presumably in two parts: they need a younger audience (candidly, you can't just let the audience age and age and then die), and they need to keep a base level of the older audience that has sustained these shows always. The opening episode of ALL MY CHILDREN on Hulu is fairly transparent on that point — it introduces some younger characters and a high school plot, but also focuses on people who were on when I was a teenager, including Angie and Jesse Hubbard, who became a so-called "supercouple" in the early 1980s and are still making out 30 years later. (And good for them.)

The Beloved Return of Angie and Jessie (Again)
With the regular assaults on Black love and marriage in the media, this is one couple that has stayed the course, no matter how difficult. Their 1980s heyday cemented them in the minds of viewers who weren’t used to seeing a young African-American couple on TV everyday, who were held in equal regard to the White characters on the show.

The lesson of Angie and Jessie may not be that love conquers all (we know it doesn’t), but certainly that when love exists, it’s hard to break its bonds.

Tuc Watkins Will Appear On MARIE On April 29

ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Tuc Watkins will be a guest on MARIE on Monday, April 29.

Here's a description of his segments: "From the Emmy® winning series ONE LIFE TO LIVE actor Tuc Watkins gives Marie the very first sneak peek preview of the online re-launch of the show after many fans demanded its return. Tuc discusses how the show will be different online than how it was on television and gives Marie the inside scoop on what his character David Vickers is up to. Tuc’s sister, Courtney Watkins, author of 'Courtney’s Creative Adventures' joins them and teaches unique and creative crafts for kids and parents to make together."

"A lot of people at some point in their lives think, 'Am I going to be a parent? Do I want to be a parent?'" Watkins explains to Marie. "And when I was young, I knew three things: I knew I was gay, I knew one day I was gonna be a dad, and I knew that Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was going to be the best movie of all time. So far, I've been right about all three."

Watkins recently welcomed twins Catchen and Curtis via surrogate.
