'Another World' Star Stephen Schnetzer Visits 'Blue Bloods' on January 20

Stephen Schnetzer visits Blue Bloods on January 20.
Longtime Another World favorite Stephen Schnetzer, who starred as Cass Winthrop for years on the NBC soap opera, will be making a primetime guest appearance on January 20 in an episode of Blue Bloods.

In "The One That Got Away," when diplomatic immunity complicates a child abuse case for Danny and Baez (Donnie Wahlberg and Marisa Ramirez), Frank (Tom Selleck) intervenes, despite not having jurisdiction on the case. Also, a robbery occurs while Eddie (Vanessa Ray) and Jamie (Will Estes) are on a double date with Eddie's boyfriend and his sister, and they are forced to step in.

Schnetzer will be playing Hassan Nasiri in the episode. Blue Bloods also stars former Another World actress Amy Carlson (Josie Watts Sinclair on Another World, now Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods), so it's a Bay City reunion of sorts (although we're not sure if the two will cross paths during the hour).

Blue Bloods airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

NEWS: Stephen Schnetzer, Justin Hartley, BethAnn Bonner, Andy Cohen, Jason Priestley, Aiden Turner

Would The Young and the Restless star Justin Hartley make a good new MacGyver?
Alan Carter thinks he would. "Not only does Hartley look a little like Richard Dean Anderson but he’s got the soap opera hunk thing down pat," he writes. CBS is reportedly re-booting the popular '80s series.

Stephen Schnetzer
Another World alum Stephen Schnetzer set for "Broken Glass" in Westport
Schnetzer will soon appear at the Westport Country Playhouse in Arthur Miller's play, "Broken Glass."

In between work on television and in the theatre, Schnetzer does voiceover work. "It's a good income stream so I could do develop my craft," he says. He even did commercials in French, including one for Kellogg's Frosted Flakes. "I enjoy that anonymity especially because some people know me from soap operas...I didn't want that facial recognition. It's the most competitive challenging part for performers because there are so many good voices and material out there. It's highly competitive. Sometimes I get lucky. I roll the dice. I get an income stream. It pays residuals. And its gets me out of the house."

Andy Cohen on his Real Housewives franchise: "I think the show has replaced the soap opera"
"You never know what’s going to happen, as unreal as it seems," Cohen says. "It’s sometimes fun to laugh at, other times to laugh with. Even though these women don’t behave like you or I might, there’s something weirdly relatable, about friendship and marriage and motherhood, that connects with people."

All My Children alum Aiden Turner welcomes first child with girlfriend Jessica Miller
"The new addition to the family 🍼 #Baby Tristan Turner He puts a big #smile on my face "

Turner (Aidan on AMC) currently stars on OWN's If Loving You Is Wrong.

One Life to Live alum BethAnn Bonner and wife Maria Fuenmayor welcome twins
Tweeted Bonner (Talia on OLTL): "On September 22nd, God helped us bring Ruby Colette & Simon Lucas n2 this beautiful world! We are SO HAPPY! ❤️"

Jason Priestley didn't appreciate former Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star Tori Spelling revealing they had a summer fling
When a fan asked on Twitter if the tryst was true, he replied, "I'm not getting into this... It's nobody's business... Either way..."

Catching Up with Anne Marie Howard (ex-Nicole 'Another World', ex-Kim, 'Days of our Lives')

Nelson Aspen with Anne Marie Howard in 1988 and 2014.
After the demise of Search for Tomorrow, I moved within my little Procter & Gamble community to its sister show, Another World. I worked in the capacity as a Production Coordinator, a Writer's Assistant, an occasional "Under-Five" Character and eventually a Writer, too. This was the late 80s and, by many fans' accounts, the last great days of the long running show. Anne Heche was chewing up scenery as Vicky and Marley...Linda Dano's boa had feathers flying all over the studio..."Iris" and "Jake" returned to Bay City...and "super couples" were all the rage. Sam and Amanda, Donna and Michael, Matt and Josie, John and Sharlene...and for a couple years, Cass and Nicole. I became friends with Anne Howard, who was playing Nicole and we recently reconnected thanks to Social Media. (Find me on Twitter @nelsonaspen) After our respective stints in Hollywood, we are both back in NYC now and had a long, lovely lunch to catch up about the intervening years and some of her memories of the Days of Her Life in Another (Soap) World!

NA: I knew you as simply "Anne" Howard. When/Why did you add "Marie?"
AMH: I had to add my middle name Marie when another actress by the name of Ann Howard removed herself from 'inactive' status in the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and became 'active' again. She had seniority and, at that time, they didn't allow two actors in the union to have the same name. Many actors had to add their middle initial or middle name, or change their name entirely to join the union. It was a bit of an adjustment for me, but my agents and friends got used to calling me Anne Marie or AMH for short. When I recently made the move back to NYC in January, my theatrical agent asked if I would mind going back to Anne Howard since that's what casting directors knew me as when I was on the soaps. I checked with the union and they've eased up on the rules a bit so I was able to take my name back. Now that I'm back in NYC where I started, it feels like I've come full circle.

NA: How much did AW impact your life?
AMH: AW changed my life in the best way possible. First of all, it was the most exciting job I ever booked. I had just completed filming John Carpenter's Prince Of Darkness and had starred in two television pilots, both shot in Los Angeles, one for HBO and one for NBC. Though the pilots were not picked up to go into series, work kept taking me to LA, so I decided to move there. I hadn't really considered acting in daytime drama, but I took an acting class with Milton Katselas and he told me it would be a good thing for me to do, that my look was right for soap operas and the discipline it required would help me become a better actress. So, I opened myself up to the possibility and a month later I was flown to NYC to screen test for the role of Nicole Love.

NEWS: Freddie Smith, Stephen Schnetzer, Angell Cornell, Victoria Rowell, JWoww, Ryan Murphy, BEACON HILL, UK Christmas Ratings

DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Freddie Smith: 'I Was Nervous' About Will Recast
"I was nervous going into it," concedes Smith, who worked with Chandler Massey for the past two-and-a-half years. "But Guy Wilson is a great actor and person."

Smith did his best to bond with his new love interest immediately.

"We actually got lunch and hung out a couple of days before our first episode," he says. "Then, the week we started work together, we hung out every day. We really tried to get to know each other as quickly as possible and tried to get right into [Will and Sonny's relationship]."

ANOTHER WORLD's Stephen Schnetzer on NBC's power play to take the show off the air, and on Jill Farren Phelps
On the cancellation of ANOTHER WORLD: "NBC was tired of being associated with P&G. They constantly fought about storylines…what was too much and what was not enough. So they didn't want to be in bed with anybody anymore. NBC wanted to produce their own show."

On Jill Farren Phelps: "Jill is a great producer. She shakes it up. If things aren’t working, she has the guts to pull the plug on very important characters. You need to maintain that kind of objectivity, I think…and that’s why I couldn’t be a producer or an exec, because I think you need to be able to do that and I think I’m too soft."

EASTENDERS loses UK Christmas Day crown to MRS BROWN'S BOYS

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS' Angell Conwell (Leslie) chats about her movie career, daytime soap acting
For the most part, we shoot everything in one take on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, which makes it unlike anything I’ve ever worked on. It’s a great adrenaline rush!

Former Y&R actress Victoria Rowell on her current projects
"I just wrapped up a movie in Atlanta titled What Love Will Make You Do. That is upcoming. I'm going to be working with Harry Lennix, who I've worked with on a number of occasions in the past. He stars on the TV show THE BLACKLIST and he was also in Man of Steel. I'm working on a biblical project he's directing this month called Gospel of John. We worked together on DIAGNOSIS and we've worked on a movie in the past. We adore each other."

Ryan Murphy on how GLEE was supposed to end with Lea Michele and Cory Monteith
"The ending of GLEE is something I have never shared with anyone, but I always knew it. I've always relied on it as a source of comfort, a North Star. At the end of season 6, Lea [Michele]'s Rachel was going to have become a big Broadway star, the role she was born to play. Finn was going to have become a teacher, settled down happily in Ohio, at peace with his choice and no longer feeling like a Lima loser. The very last line of dialogue was to be this: Rachel comes back to Ohio, fulfilled and yet not, and walks into Finn’s glee club. 'What are you doing here?' he would ask. 'I'm home,' she would reply. Fade out. The end.'"

ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Jennifer (JWoww) Farley reveals she's pregnant via Christmas
Farley announced that she is expecting her first child with fiancé Roger Mathews.

NEWS: Stephen Schnetzer, Marlee Matlin, Ashlyn Pearce, Amy Andrews, ABC's Female Viewers

Stephen Schnetzer reflects on play ANOTHER WORLD's Cass Winthrop
"I really never felt typecast as Cass because I had the opportunity to play such a wide range of situations: comical, farcical, serious, dramatic, tragic."

ABC Viewers Tilt Female for a Network Light on Sports
About 62 percent of the ABC audience is female. (CBS is the next most female-skewed at 57 percent.) More strikingly, the top five most popular shows among women are on ABC, as well as seven of the 10 most popular. All of those shows have an audience that is more than 70 percent female. (No. 1 is GREY'S ANATOMY with an audience just under 76 percent female.)

Paul Lee, ABC’s top entertainment executive, has consistently said that ABC should be judged under a different standard — one that excludes sports. “More Americans in the 18-49 category are watching ABC than any other network,” Mr. Lee said, adding “if you take sports out.”

GLEE Books Marlee Matlin as a Nationals Judge
The SWITCHED AT BIRTH star will play herself, as a judge during the Nationals competition.

The actress tweeted a photo of herself on set with Skylar Astin, Chord Overstreet and Darren Criss on Tuesday, adding that the actors are, “Gentlemen all!”

Julia Roberts on GLEE? "Wouldn't That Be Fun!" Oscar Winner Says
"If [Ryan Murphy] came up with a some funny soap opera back from the dead moment for the last vestiges of the entire series, wouldn't that be fun!" she said.

Matt Willis joins EASTENDERS
The actor and singer has joined the BBC One soap for a short stint as newcomer Luke (Stacey Branning's latest boyfriend) and will film his first scenes this week.

CLASSIC CLIP: Cass and Kathleen's 'Another World' Wedding (1986)

My all-time favorite soap couple is Cass and Kathleen from Another World in the mid-80s. They were written as smart and funny and I rooted for them so hard back in the day as a teenager juggling many shows at a time with my trusty VCR.

They finally married on November 10, 1986 in a sweet ceremony following Kathleen's paralysis, Cass being kidnapped by Cecile, and many other twists and turns. I have this episode saved on a VHS tape along with hundreds of other AW shows from its last 15 years.

As many times as I've watched this wedding over the years, I just discovered something brand new today that I had never noticed before. Christopher Goutman, Executive Producer of As the World Turns, was the director for this episode.

Stephen Schnetzer (Cass) and Julie Osburn (Kathleen) left AW a month after the wedding. Schnetzer returned in July 1987 and stayed with the show until it's demise in June 1999. He then brought the character of Cass to As the World Turns and Guiding Light but, sadly, Cass was just a glorified dayplayer lawyer on those shows.
