Telemundo Begins Production on New Telenovela 'Quién es quién'

Kimberly Dos Ramos, Laura Flores, Eugenio Siller and Danna Paola
star in Quién es quién.
Telemundo Studios has announced the production kick off in its new telenovela Quién es quién, starring Danna Paola, Eugenio Siller, Laura Flores and Kimberly Dos Ramos. The romantic comedy tells the story of twin brothers who live separate lives until fate reunites them and forces them to switch places, thrusting them into some sticky situations and others that are downright humorous. Filmed in Miami and Los Angeles, Quién es quién is directed by Luis Manzo (Tierra de Reyes, Santa Diabla) with a script by Laura Sosa (En otra piel). Joshua Mintz and Carmen Urbaneja (Tierra de Reyes, En otra piel) serve as executive producers.

Full of thrills, contrasts and humor, Quién es quién is Danna Paola’s first production for Telemundo. She plays the role of Paloma, a single mother who works at a flower stand. Over the course of the story, Paloma overcomes her distrust of the opposite sex and finds love with a man she never expected to care for.

Sharing top billing is Eugenio Siller, who, for the first time in his career, takes on the challenge of playing two characters at once: Pedro (“Perico”) and Leonardo, twin brothers separated at birth by a dark secret, and reunited years later through an accidental trick of fate. In the midst of coincidence and confusion, destiny and love conspire to intertwine the lives of these two men, who may be identical in appearance but have completely distinct personalities.

The production also marks the return of leading lady Laura Flores to Telemundo in the role of Inés, a determined woman who lets nothing stand in the way of her family’s well-being. But malice, resentment and intrigue come her way in the form of the charismatic Fernanda Manrique, played by Kimberly Dos Ramos, who puts her incomparable talent to work to portray a villain whose beauty hides a bottomless thirst for revenge.

Joining these stars is a supporting cast featuring Jonathan Islas, Carlos Espejel, Guillermo Quintanilla, Gabriel Valenzuela, Marissa del Portillo, Sandra Desteneve, Fernando Carrera, Isabella Castillo, Daniela Wong, Maite Embil, Gabriel Rossi, Kenya Hijuelos, Ruben Morales, Oka Giner, Adrian Di Monti, Isabel Moreno, Alex Ruiz, Silvana Arias, Armando Torrea, Maria del Pilar, Sofia Reca, Fernando Pacanins, Nicolas Magniole, Daniela Macias and Gisella Abounrad.

Can you really make a telenovela called Tierra de Reyes (“Land of Kings”) in Miami? Apparently so, as Telemundo’s Miami hacienda telenovela premieres tonight at 9 p.m. ET. Los Miserables will move up an hour taking the thankfully departed Reina de Corazones time slot at 8 p.m. ET.

Tierra de Reyes is a new version of Telemundo’s Pasión de Gavilanes, a 2003 Colombian telenovela produced with RTI that is arguably the network’s most successful production, at least in terms of its international popularity. Pasión de Gavilanes was itself a remake of the 1994 Colombian telenovela Las Aguas Mansas, which also spawned an unfortunate Mexican production from Televisa in 2008 called Fuego en la Sangre that ludicrously miscast all its principals. That did not prevent Fuego en la Sangre from becoming a hit in the US and it is still regularly rebroadcast. Pasión de Gavilanes is also constantly being rerun which calls to question the wisdom of Telemundo going to this well again, particularly as their Miami studio seems inadequate for a hacienda telenovela like this.

The story, from the press release, is of “three brothers out for revenge against the family they hold responsible for the tragic and mysterious death of their younger sister. In their search for the truth, Arturo, Flavio and Samuel Reyes set out to conquer the beautiful daughters of hacienda owner Ignacio Del Junco, the man they suspect of causing their sister’s death. But fate makes them victims of their own trap and they end up falling in love with their enemies, Sofía, Irina and Andrea.”
