AdAge.com: P&G Comes to Rescue of Soaps on the Ropes. On February 29, GUIDING LIGHT will have new flicker. The crew is dumping the $1 million pedestal cameras and outfitting itself with 8-pound digital minicams that cost anywhere from $10,000 to $25,000 each. That will enable Ellen Wheeler, the show's executive producer, to shoot over characters' shoulders or across a table and follow people as they descend stairways or walk around town. The show has struck an agreement with the town of Peapack, N.J., that allows the crew to shoot autos more naturally; shooting outdoors has long been a rarity for soap-opera productions.
Newsday: Campbell Soup sponsoring a month of heart health on daytime shows. ABC and Campbell have a deal for an integrated campaign to promote heart health and the soup in both programs and commercials through February, which is American Heart Month. The companies are not disclosing the cost of the deal, which is the first ABC has ever made to have all its daytime shows focus on a single issue. The heart-related story lines will surface in different ways. On GENERAL HOSPITAL, one nurse will have a heart attack; on ALL MY CHILDREN, characters will plan a charity event sponsored by Campbell's to benefit the American Heart Association.
ABC: VIDEO: Jesse reeturns on ALL MY CHILDREN.
TIME: Uplift at the SAG Awards.
SLAM! Sports: Who says skaters should have all the fun at the NHL all-star game? There were several celebrities on hand at the Philips Arena for the NHL's showcase game Thorsten Kaye of ALL MY CHILDREN.
Arkansas Traveler : Growing up, people are often encouraged to follow their dreams. English and creative writing major Raymond Burks listened to that advice and followed his dreams all the way to Los Angeles, where he landed the role of a lifetime as a production intern at THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. "I wondered if I would be able to get it because a lot of TV internships typically go to people who are majoring in something related to television production, film or communications," Burks said. "And then, I finally just told myself to go for it. The worst they could say is 'no.'"
MyParkMag: SPOILER ALERT: Ian Beale is going to be crying when he sees what Lucy's done to his house on EASTENDERS. In an episode to be aired in March, the Beale house is completed wrecked by Lucy and a gang of teenagers.
Telecom Paper: Portuguese internet portal Sapo, part of the Portugal Telecom gorup, will launch a soap opera produced for the internet.

News Brief
STRIKE WATCH
Sydney Morning Herald: More than a dozen feature films, as well as drama series and soap operas such as "Law & Order", "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "As The World Turns" might be affected by the writer's strike, which began with several hundred writers picketing near the NBC offices at the Rockefeller Centre. A large inflatable rat at one end of the picket offered mute testimony to writers' views of their employers.
World Socialist News: The first picket lines appeared in New York City Monday morning. Hundreds of members of the Writers Guild of America, East set up a picket line outside NBC’s headquarters at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan. On the picket line, chanting “No contract, no shows,” were writers for nightly talk shows like “The Late Show With David Letterman” and “The Daily Show,” soap operas like “As the World Turns” and several dramatic series.
NY1: Courtney Simon, script editor for the soap opera “As the World Turns,” says it is only fair that writers profit from their work. She says her show stockpiled as many scripts as it could in anticipation of the strike. "[But,] the pace of soaps is relentless,” said Simon. “They are going to have to scramble soon to get material to tape."
WTOC: "With TV, no writing is happening at all as of midnight last night," Christopher Auer said. Auer is a SCAD professor and former writer for "As The World Turns" and "The Cosby Show." He's a member of the Screen Writers Guild and says production companies and TV shows have stockpiled scripts, but sooner or later, those will run out. "Once we hit the end of that road, whenever that is, nothing else will get written. I don't care about long term story projection, it won't happen," Auer said.

Northwest Arkansas Times: Nix New York. Leave out Los Angeles. Although Raymond Burks is a triedand-true fan of the daytime soap operas that air on major networks, the 23-year-old senior at the University of Arkansas senior has proven that when it comes to producing a soap opera, one only needs a trusty camera, a healthy dose of determination and a couple of friends who are willing to get in front of said camera. The simplistic formula has, so far, worked out well for Burks and company after producing the first season of “ Bring Down the Moon, ” a local soap opera that will have its fifth episode premiere at 6: 30 p. m. Nov. 12 on CAT-TV, Fayetteville’s community access television station on Cox cable channel 18. For those who live outside of Fayetteville, episodes can be seen on www. youtube. com.
Corrieblog: With a new single, Coming Down, out on 19 November and his debut album Neon set to be released a week later, ex-"Coronation Street" star Richard Fleeshman (Craig Harris) is finally where he wants to be with his career. Metro UK: "EastEnders'" Sean Slater will reportedly beg Tanya Branning to run away with him after discovering that her husband Max has been having an affair with Stacey. News Brief
CBS 46: “The Young and the Restless Screen Test" comes to Atlanta on November 1st and 2nd. One talented actress will be selected to travel to Hollywood and appear in an episode of "The Young and the Restless".
Fox News: Procter & Gamble once had 10 soaps on the air. Now it has two left, "As the World Turns" and "Guiding Light," and they’re determined to kill them off, too. On Tuesday it announced the shows would be filmed like the reality program "The Hills" starting in January. P&G already has hobbled the shows with cut budgets and no sets. Now it will opt for handheld cameras and exteriors shot off sets to save money. It’s a recipe for disaster and I suspect they know it. It’s too bad: The P&G soaps have been launching pads for Kevin Bacon, Morgan Freeman, Julianne Moore, Marisa Tomei, Susan Sullivan, Steven Weber, Kate Capshaw, Tamara Tunie, Justin Chambers, Brad Pitt and dozens upon dozens more. P&G can afford anything. It's one of the world’s richest corporations. This cost-cutting just makes it look kind of pathetic. It should just sell the shows if it doesn't want them.
iVillage: Kristian Alfonso is a mom of three boys, designs jewelry and recently launched her own clothing line. Oh -- and as if that isn't enough to keep a woman busy -- she's a full-time actress! The brunette beauty has played Hope Brady on NBC's "Days of our Lives" since 1983 and is thrilled to still call Salem home.
Soap Opera Digest: NBC's first online-only soap opera "Coastal Dreams" debuted October 2. Every Tuesday and Thursday for the following 12 weeks, new five-minute episodes of the drama featuring daytime beauties Danica Stewart (ex-Jessica, "Passions") and Kam Heskin (ex-Sheridan, "Passions"; ex-Caitlin, "Sunset Beach)air on NBC.com.
Arkansas Times: Though this writer hasn't sat through an entire episode of a soap opera since my stay-at-home mother got addicted to “General Hospital” around the time Luke and Laura got married, I can still appreciate the genre. Unlike real life, things happen on soap operas — big things. Unwanted pregnancies and murders for hire. Incest and suicide attempts. Dirty business deals and shocking revelations. These days, we hear, even stuff like alien abduction and possession by the Devil gets thrown into the mix. With action like that, who could blame UA student Raymond Burks for wanting to get in on the fun? A 22-year-old senior seeking a degree in English and creative writing when not running campus radio station KXUA, Burks is also the writer, producer and editor of his own cable access soap opera: “Bring Down the Moon.”
PGP Blog: 2007 Daytime Emmy-nominee Stephanie Gatschet returns to "Guiding Light" as Tammy to help her mother Cassie through a difficult time on Wednesday, October 24. Meanwhile, long-time soap veteran Linda Cook will be making an appearance on "As The World Turns" to give bad news to Will and Gwen.
