Executive VP Lisa Hackner Fired from ABC Daytime, Along with Development Team

Lisa Hackner, who joined ABC in late 2013 as executive vice president, Daytime & Syndicated Programs, ABC Entertainment, has been let go, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hackner's development team is also out. Hackner's exit comes on the heels of the cancellation of Tyra Banks’ failed talk show FABLife after one season.

Hackner's role included all-new development, as well as the oversight of General Hospital, The Chew and syndication, which includes Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. She also oversaw the development of all non-scripted, short-form original programs for ABC daytime and the re-launch of the ABC App.

She was largely responsible for recruiting Banks back to daytime, and she helped to spearhead an initial shake-up on The View that saw the exit of longtime producer Bill Geddie and the return of Rosie O’Donnell to the show in the fall of 2014.

Rebecca Campbell, the network’s president of owned stations, in February was recently given oversight of ABC daytime properties including Live! with Kelly, which is produced by WABC, the network's owned station in New York, as well as The Chew, General Hospital and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. A well-regarded executive inside ABC, Campbell was integral to containing the fallout from the botched announcement about Michael Strahan's departure from Live! that resulted in Kelly Ripa boycotting her own show.

Prior to joining ABC, Hackner was executive vice president, Creative Affairs, for Telepictures Productions/Warner Bros. During her 22 years at Telepictures, she was involved in launching numerous successful long-term television franchises for first-run syndication, network, and cross-platform/digital outlets, successfully leading all development and programming for her last six years at the company. While at Telepictures/Warner Bros., Hackner created and launched Momlogic.com, a digital destination for the coveted mom audience, and led the Telepictures creative team in their partnership with Essence Magazine in their launch of Essence.com.

What does this change mean for the long-term future of General Hospital? Stay tuned.
