Today in Soap Opera History (June 24)

1966: Final episode of ABC's Never Too Young. 1983: Guiding
Light's Nola & Quint were married. 1987: As the World Turns'
Iva blurted out the truth about Lily. 1999: A gorilla plotted
to interrupt Cass & Lila's wedding on Another World.

On this date in...

1946: Procter & Gamble radio soap opera Life Can Be Beautiful moved to the 3 p.m. ET timeslot on the NBC Radio network. The show had always run in the mornings previously. It would remain in this new timeslot until it went off the air in 1954.

Another World's John
& Pat were married.
1965: On Another World, Pat Matthews (Susan Trustman) married John Randolph (Michael M. Ryan) in the Matthews living room with Reverend Carlson officiating.

1966: On The Guiding Light, Johnny Fletcher (Don Scardino) wanted to move out.

1966: ABC aired the final episode of daytime soap opera Never Too Young.   The series, written by David Robert Kanter and Ron Sproat., starred Tony Dow as Chet, Cindy Carol as Susan, David Watson as Alfy, Jaclyn Carmichael as Joy, Norman Rambo as Tim, Michael Blodgett as Tad, Pat Connolly as Barbara, Tommy Rettig as JoJo, Patrice Wymore as Rhoda, and John Lupton as Frank..  ABC replaced Never Too Young with Dark Shadows in its afternoon lineup the following Monday.



1983: On Guiding Light, Quint (Michael Tylo) and Nola (Lisa Brown) were married.  Nola nearly missed the wedding when everyone left without her, but she hitched a ride to the church on a fire truck.



1987: On As the World Turns, Lily (Martha Byrne) learned Iva (Lisa Brown) was her mother during an emotional confrontation with Josh (William Fichtner).



1999: On Another World, Lila (Lisa Peluso) thought Vicky (Jensen Buchanan) crashed her wedding to a missing Cass (Stephen Schnetzer). Lila ended up invited Vicky and family to the wedding.



2001: On Queer as Folk, Justin Taylor (Randy Harrison) was overjoyed when his older lover, Brian Kinney (Gale Harold) surprised him by showing up to be his date at his senior prom. But what Justin called the best night of his life would soon turn tragic in a dramatic, cliffhanger-ending to the show's first season.

2010: On Days of our Lives, family and friends continued returning to Salem for Alice's (Frances Reid) memorial service.

  1. YES! Lisa Brown Day on We Love Soaps! How I love Lisa Brown. The episodes of Guiding Light and As The World Turns are two of my favorite episodes of daytime ever. I think the ATWT episode is one of the greatest episodes of daytime EVER!

  2. I agree with your love of Lisa. I too agree about the timeless power of both of these episodes. I had the great fortune of seeing her on Broadway in 42nd. Street in the winter of 1983.
