Daytime Emmys Will Be Live-Streamed on June 22nd

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) today announced 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will not air on television for the first time since 1984. Instead the June 22nd ceremony will be live-streamed on daytimeemmys.net starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

The Daytime Emmys ceremony has been broadcast on HLN the past two years. Last year's telecast averaged 913,000 viewers after drawing 5.4 million viewers on CBS just two years prior.

“We are confident that the expert team we’ve brought on will flawlessly execute an evening that celebrates the outstanding talent being honored and allows fans to be a part of the action,” said NATAS chairman Malachy Wienges in a statement.

Wienges brought on production, social media and public relations partners to produce the 2014 Daytime Emmy Awards and help see the ceremony through its first web-based broadcast. Spike Jones, Jr and SJ2 Entertainment will be producing the live show at the Beverly Hilton with Terry D. Peterson, Owner, Artistic Director, Verite Productions, Inc. Paul Colichman and HERE Media will handle all aspects of social media for the event, and Slate PR, led by Andy Gelb, has been appointed the Agency of Record for the 2014 Daytime Emmy Awards.

The Young and the Restless leads the nominations with 26. Click here for a complete list of 2014 Daytime Emmy Awards nominees.

We Love Soaps partnered with JTS.TV to live-stream the 5th Annual Indie Series Awards on April 2nd. Viewers were given three camera angles while watching--a close up of the stage, a wide "audience" shot, and backstage interviews. If the Daytime Emmys offer something similar, the viewing experience may actually be improved this year versus the recent past.

Once again this year, no one from the world of daytime soap operas will be given the Lifetime Achievement Award. Russ Morash, the producer and director of The French Chef with Julia Child and the creator of This Old House and other iconic public television programs will be honored at the 41st Annual Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards on June 20th.

  1. Yes, Thank you! A cord cutter like me can tune in now. I know that some won't be pleased but this is part of the future of entertainment, IMO.
So you won't hear a complaint out of me-- at least about this ;)
