The Biz: Why Daytime Soaps Are Bubbling
On CBS, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL is up 12 percent in total viewers this season, giving the show its best start since 2007, while THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS recently had its largest weekly audience since February 2012. In November, ABC's GENERAL HOSPITAL hit a two-year ratings high among women 18 to 49. NBC's DAYS OF OUR LIVES is up 12 percent among women 18 to 49 and recently had its biggest weekly audience since February 2011.

"We do see lifts from DVR viewing," confirms Angelica McDaniel, senior vice president for daytime programming at CBS. "Soaps are bigger than game shows or talk shows in daytime." As an executive at another network puts it: "Soaps are the ultimate DVR show."

Matthew Goode joins THE GOOD WIFE
In a major recurring role, Goode will play a prosecutor who befriends Julianna Margulies’ Alicia after having a crisis of faith and deciding to chart a new direction for his career. His first episode is slated to air in the spring.

SPOILER ALERT: NASHVILLE is killing off another character...
This well-known character (and actor) will be written off during the current second season, marking the third death in less than a year. Jolene (Sylvia Jeffries) and Dante (Jay Hernandez) were killed off in a murder-suicide in the show's season finale in May.

DOWNTON ABBEY Christmas special: a royal scandal
The DOWNTON ABBEY Christmas special is set to be one of the TV highlights of the festive season in the UK, as ITV has announced it will take the Crawley family to Buckingham Palace, where a scandal threatens to engulf the British monarchy.

The actor, singer and director has since moved to the Green Mountain hamlet of Grafton. Starting Thursday, he’ll share his talents at the Vermont Institute of Contemporary Arts in neighboring Chester.

“The writers would change every couple of years,” he says of his time on GUIDING LIGHT, “so you knew your part would change.”

Archey is the male lead for a cinematic short film that is set around the disease bulimia nervosa. 'The B Word,' is currently in pre-production and is a first effort for A Celistan & Co Films which is written & produced by twins Nakisha & Nichole Celistan.

"I just really, really want to move on," she tweeted.   1. How big are those lifts in DVR viewing? Have you found any numbers for Live, Live+SD or SD+7? I know +7 isn't as big as for primetime shows, but I'd really like to know increase of Live to Live+SD.

    1. They never include the +3 or +7 day numbers in any press releases like primetime. If it really is significant (and you would think it was) not sure why the networks never choose to highlight it. With Nashville, for example, ABC makes sure to tell us every week that it's one of the biggest DVR gainers on TV even before those numbers are in.

    2. Thanks for your answer, Roger! I've read press releases of GH and DOOL with season to date +7 numbers, so you can compare to SD and see the increase, but I don't know about increase Live to Live+SD.
