Premios TVyNovelas Winners List; Big Ratings For Univision

It was a night full of glitz and glamour—a truly spectacular event that brought together hundreds of internationally famous Hispanic stars to pay homage to the top talent in the Spanish-language television industry. Airing last night from Acapulco, Mexico and emceed by DESPIERTA AMERICA co-host Alan Tacher, celebrated Mexican singer/actress Yuri, and HOY co-host Galilea Montijo, the 2013 edition of “Premios TVyNovelas” featured a veritable Who’s Who of superstar presenters who gave out 28 different awards to the best programs, actors, comedians, hosts, writers, and directors, in addition to presenting four special recognitions. For the first time in its history, the “Premios TVyNovelas” awards ceremony was simulcast by the Univision Network in the U.S. and Televisa in Mexico and included Univision programming and talent among the honorees.

“Premios TVyNovelas” reached 7.1 million viewers who watched some or all of the broadcast. Attracting an average audience of 3.6 million Total Viewers, 1.8 million Adults 18-49 and 744,000 Adults 18-34, the awards show was up by double-digit margins compared to last year’s telecast with Total Viewers 2+ (+24%), Adults 18-49 (+35%) and Adults 18-34 (+10%). Additionally, “Premios TVyNovelas” made Univision the No. 2 broadcast network, beating ABC, CBS and NBC, among Adults 18-34 during the two and a half hour airing. In fact, the awards show delivered more Adult 18-34 viewers than first-run episodes of ABC’s AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS and RED WIDOW, CBS’ 60 MINUTES, THE GOOD WIFE and THE MENTALIST, and NBC’s THE CELEBRITY APRENTICE.

On Univision local stations, “Premios TVyNovelas” made Univision the No. 1 broadcast station in the 9 p.m.-11:30 p.m. time period among Total Viewers 2+ in Los Angeles, Miami and Houston; and Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Houston. The awards show also helped Univision local stations garner the No. 1 spot in primetime among Total Viewers 2+ in Miami; Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Houston; and Adults 18-34 in New York, Miami and San Francisco.

On social TV, “Premios TVyNovelas” ranked as the highest rated entertainment broadcast program during the day of telecast, according to SocialGuide.

The biggest winner of the evening was the hit novela POR ELLA SOY EVA (For Her, I’m Eva), recently airing on Univision. This lighthearted Televisa production received statuettes in six categories: Best Telenovela, Best Male Antagonist (Marcelo Córdoba), Best Male Co-Star (Jesús Ochoa), Best Female Co-Star (Patty Navidad), Best Young Actor (Ferdinando Valencia), and Best Scene Director (Benjamin Cann). The second biggest winner last night was ABISMO DE PASION (Love Abyss), which was honored with five awards, including Best Actor in a Leading Role (David Zepeda) and Distinguished Leading Lady (Blanca Guerra).

In the new categories created specifically for Univision programming and talent this year, the Network’s top-rated morning show DESPIERTA AMERICA Wake Up America) won “Best Program,” while Univision personality Alejandra Espinoza and Johnny Lozada, co-host of DESPIERTA AMERICA, each took home an award in the Best Host category.

The honors for Univision continued with two special awards presented during the gala event. “Premios TVyNovelas” recognized DESPIERTA AMERICA for its 15 years of uninterrupted success on the air, and Raúl de Molina, co-host of the Network’s top-rated entertainment news and gossip show EL GORDO Y LA FLACA (The Scoop and the Skinny) and many Emmy winner, was honored with the “20-Year Career Award” in recognition of his multiple achievements as a Spanish-language television personality. In a truly emotional moment, the prestigious award was presented to de Molina by his co-host and close friend, Lili Estefan.

In addition, two renowned Mexican actresses received special tributes for their exceptional careers: internationally famous television superstar and singer Lucero, past winner of 19 “Premios TVyNovelas” awards, and distinguished leading lady Jacqueline Andere, who was recognized with the “A Telenovela Life” award for having dedicated over 50 years of her life to the telenovela genre.

Adding a powerful dose of entertainment to the already star-packed show was a dazzling performance by Latin music great Juan Gabriel, one of Mexico’s most prolific and successful singer/songwriters of all time, returning to the stage after a long absence to the delight of his fans. The show also featured duets by Cristian Castro and Lucero, Alejandra Orozco and Óscar Cruz, as well as Alexander Acha and Zuria Vega.

Created by the international entertainment magazine TV y Novelas, the “Premios TVyNovelas” awards are bestowed every year to the best and brightest talent in the Hispanic television industry. The nominated actors, producers, writers, and programs are chosen by readers of the magazine; winners are determined by a panel of judges.
