1957: On THE EDGE OF NIGHT, Dalton refused Mike's (John Larkin) resignation then argued to him that leaving would be more of a disservice to the public than to Dalton himself.
1966: ABC's A TIME FOR US (formerly A FLAME IN THE WIND) aired its final episode. Jane Elliot, Conard Fowkes and Margaret Ladd were among the stars. Below is an episode of the series from 1965.
1968: David Selby debuted on DARK SHADOWS as Quentin Collins. Terry Crawford also aired for the first time as Beth Chavez.
1983: On FALCON CREST, a clause was found by Chase in his grandfather's will that gave him the legal right to get rid of Angela from Falcon Crest.
1986: Douglas Lambert (Eddie Weeks, GENERAL HOSPITAL) died of complications due to the AIDS virus at age 50.
1988: On THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, Bill (Jim Storm) wanted Stephanie (Susan Flannery) to encourage Ridge to marry Brooke.
1998: On DAYS OF OUR LIVES, Austin (Austin Peck) was upset with Carrie's (Christie Clark) attitude about Sami.
2003: Madlyn Rhue, who played Daphne DiMera in DAYS OF OUR LIVES, died at age 68.
2003: GUIDING LIGHT's Paul Anthony Stewart was a guest on SOAP TALK.
2004: The 9,000th episode of ALL MY CHILDREN aired. "Part of it is the script is different every day," Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) told the Associated Press about how the show had stayed fresh. "You have no choice. It's hot off the presses."
2005: John Spencer, who played Leo McGarry in THE WEST WING, died four days before his 59th birthday. THE WEST WING wrote Leo's death into the show.
2011: Dan Frazer, who played Lt. Dan McCloskey in AS THE WORLD TURNS for many years, died at age 90.

ReplyDeleteThere are so many talented performers who are out of work these days. It saddens me to think that just a few years ago, we had so many more soaps to watch and enjoy. I am thankful for the four remaining soaps and hope they continue for many years to come!
