4th Annual Indie Soap Awards Nominations Announced

4th Annual Indie Soap Awards Nominations Announced Today

- Surge of "extraordinary" shows this year; committee "inspired;" faced with "excruciating choices."
DEVANITY and OUT WITH DAD most nominated drama series; HUSBANDS, THE BLOODY MARY SHOW,  and PRETTY most nominated comedies.
- Winners to be announced Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at legendary awards show.

New York, NY (December 17, 2012) - Could this be a turning point in the history of Television? The entire world wide web?

"After breaking all these records (to begin with, we had the most submissions ever and the most nominations ever) we faced a daunting task.  Excruciating choices.  Haggling and horse trading were at an all-time high. But the quantity of high quality made it all worthwhile.  We were definitely inspired.

"But honestly, we barely avoided fisticuffs during the final meeting! There just has never been so much carnage after reducing each category to only six nominees," said We Love Soaps founder Roger Newcomb.

"We used to argue on behalf of a potential nominee, 'it's so good, it could be on TV.'  This time, to make the cut, it had to be, 'this is excellent, it's better than anything on TV!'  It's extraordinary. I think we've passed an historic landmark for the genre.  In so many ways, the shows on this list are better than the scripted, serialized programming on network Television.  Than anything on network Television."

Over 40 web series received at least one nomination.  Almost 100 were submitted.  To be considered, among other qualifications, shows had to be independent, scripted, professional and serialized. And, they had to broadcast at least three episodes in 2012.  In addition to general excellence in TV programming, a special premium is placed on series which follow the mission of the Awards' charity sponsor, the Indie Series Network.  Their mission is to bring quality, independently-produced TV series, with socially relevant messaging and artistic merit, to under-served audiences.

Happily, everyone who worked on one of the series that was accepted for consideration, whether nominated or not, is invited (and encouraged) to attend the enormous, star-studded, industry-only gala celebration planned for February 19, 2013 at New World Stages in New York City. All-access Guest Passes for the event (really a series of events) just went on sale - at a discount, early bird rate, for now. Series will all be able to sit together for the actual Award Presentation Ceremony as long as they reserve their assigned seats before January 5.

NOW, THE NOMINEES
DEVANITY and OUT WITH DAD led all drama series with nine nominations each.  HUSBANDS, THE BLOODY MARY SHOW and PRETTY each had nine nominations on the comedy side.

  8. What? How the hell is The Bay not on this list? The show is not only awesome, it was nominated for an EMMY!!! How is the show good enough for the Emmy nomination but not for the Indie award? I've not heard of many of the shows on this list, yet The Bay has a huge following - so much that it's gotten attention from TV execs.

There are so many awards these days, but they amount to absolutely nothing because the entertainment industry is nothing but a "good ole boys" club. Apparently The Bay, or those involved, either didn't know the right people or must not have licked the boots of enough people to get a nomination.

Excellent story? Good writing? Stellar acting? Nah, those things don't matter as long as you have the politically correct opinion or rub elbows with the right people. It's made the whole thing a joke.

I'll tell you....I couldn't care less if a show has a certain accolade these days. They mean absolutely nothing.

  9. Congrats to all the nominees! This was the best year for web series ever!

Miahappy, THE BAY did not submit their show for consideration at the ISAs this year. So none of the things you describe are happening here. This is a wonderful and welcoming and supportive community. It's nothing like any other awards show I've been around. People root for each other and support each other's success rather than begrudging them.

  10. CONGRATULATIONS - I am so inspired by creativity and professional artistry of the work this year.

For Miahappy - we foster an open and supportive community. Producers and show-runners have been told since April 5,2012 of the submission procedure. Those who wished to participate had 8 months to do so. http://www.welovesoaps.net/2012/04/isa4.html

Thank you everyone for your hard work and spirited participation!!

  13. Yes, those two deleted posts above are mine. Not sure why my name doesn't show up. Oh well...here goes. On behalf of the entire Miss Behave team, we are so honored to be recognized with nominations. The support of the We Love Soaps team is unparalleled in our little world of indie soaps, and I know myself, along with many other creators, are eternally grateful!

  17. Wow! The nominations are in! Congratulations to all the nominees this year! So so sorry we missed this years submissions deadline!

@Miahappy, I'd like to start off by saying, thank you so much for championing THE BAY. It is fans as passionate as you that have made THE BAY such a success. Your support is greatly appreciated, as is the support of all our wonderful fans. This has been a great year for our show. Being nominated for a Daytime Emmy was a major accolade, as was winning our second ISA Fans Choice Award this past February. I can't emphasize enough how important our fans are to us. THE BAY'S continued success ultimately belongs to all of you.

As far as this years nominations go and the bombarding emails expressing the disappointment in not receiving any nominations this year. Please know that LANY Entertainment did receive word this past Spring about the changes in the WLS Indie Soap Award nomination procedure, but unfortunately, due to our hectic schedule in filming a new feature, the deadline for submitting THE BAY for the ISAs slipped past us. It was a mistake we do not intend to repeat again and look forward to participating in the nomination process next year.

We at THE BAY would like to extend to all of this year's nominees a very heartfelt congratulations, and we wish them all much success! We would also like to thank Roger, Damon, Kevin, and all the WLS team members for giving independent serial dramas and comedies support, coverage, and encouragement in an industry once ruled solely by networks. The ISA's are now going into their 4th year and it grows every year into something better than the previous. Thank you so much for your passion for Independent serial drama/comedy. TPTB of our show hope all of our fans and supporters will continue to support Indie dramas and the Indie Soap Awards this year and in the years to come! I can certainly vouch for the quality of production being produced by this years nominees and hope that our fans will take the time to tune in to as many of these shows as possible! Indie dramas are the wave of the future!

Despite our missing this years deadlines we will try to be present in the awards ceremony in some sort of capacity.

Sending you all love and light!

    -Gregori J. Martin
    (The Bay the Series)

PS. @MiaHappy, thank you again for voicing your support for THE BAY! We're looking forward to an even more spectacular Season 3!

  18. Congrats to all the fellow Nominees, its been a great year for online scripted content and its great to see the new faces emerge as well...looking forward to meeting all of you!

This event is an awards show yes, but the vibe has always been about supporting each other in the "community" and not competition....lets all remember that

    Happy Holidays!

  19. Congrats to all the nominees! And to our friends Roger and Damon for continuing the tradition they began by celebrating Indie web shows. And, FYI, before anyone writes another angry message about who is included or excluded from this very embracing event, "Anyone But Me" did not submit this year because we felt that we've been honored so richly by The Indie Soap Awards since its inception that there was no need to compete for the love everyone has already shown us.
