NEWS ROUNDUP: Larry Hagman, Kelly Monaco, Christa B. Allen, NASHVILLE, CORRIE, BOOK CLUB

Larry Hagman stays positive about wife's Alzheimer's
The 81-year-old star said: "She's not very well. But those were the cards we were dealt, so we'll play with them. More than half a century of happy years is a lot to draw on."

Hagman, who reprised his role as J.R. Ewing in DALLAS, was diagnosed with throat cancer and says he wouldn't have got through it all without the help of his co-stars Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy.

He told the Daily Mail newspaper: "I had a rough patch there last year when I was shooting. But I do have two very good friends on the show, and they supported me, as did the writers and producers, who gave me all the time off I needed for the therapy, and it went very smoothly, did it not?"

CW Developing 'Book Club' Drama With 'Sherlock Holmes' Producer
The network has given script orders to BOOK CLUB, a drama about a young New Yorker who starts a book club with her mother, grandmother and friends. Based on the documentary from Hope Hartman, the drama centers on Emma, a 23-year-old New Yorker who forms a club with her three unique friends, her career-oriented mother and her eccentric grandmother. The project would follow their adventures, loves, losses and careers as seen through the "book of the week," which serves as a thematic mirror reflective of their lives.

Is NASHVILLE the Most Radical Feminist Show on TV?
Beyond the cheatin’, schemin’, and burning old flames, the drama is at heart about two women: the older established country star Rayna James and poppy newcomer (as well as potential rival) Juliette Barnes. Rayna’s and Juliette’s characters are inflected and mediated through their interaction with men — sexual, economic, and otherwise — but these alliances take second stage to the female networks that underwrite the world of NASHVILLE. The show is, in a sense, as heterosexual as they come, but its portrayal of female relationships makes me wonder if it’s not one of the most distinct feminist dramas to appear on network television yet.

GENERAL HOSPITAL inspires creativity
"There’s always an imaginative concept to every storyline. Whether Sam’s baby is deemed dead when really he was switched at birth or a killer is on the loose there’s never a dull moment. The job of the viewer is to figure out who did what and find out the next step in solving a mystery only we can. This is why my mind is always engrossed in every aspect of the show. The answer is never flat out given to us. Whether I’m reading a book or working on a project, a multitude of perceptions flow through my mind. Thus, making my academic life much easier, all thanks to the minds of GH’s writers."

GAME OF THRONES Season 3 Tease

Why Lindsay Lohan Was Cast as Elizabeth Taylor
Producer Larry Thompson: "Well, to make a movie about Elizabeth Taylor required something exceptional, and while we could hire other actors who could give us a competent performance, we felt that Lindsay could bring magic to Elizabeth Taylor. We felt that, while it probably was risky on paper, that the reward she could bring if it happened right would be wonderful. And I'm guardedly optimistic that the audience will feel the same way. I do think that there was an inner essence about Lindsay Lohan that allowed her to understand Elizabeth Taylor maybe better than some other actresses of her age. And I don't know how many young actresses have that...have been divorced four times at 29 and have lived such a public life‚ living to excess and all that. Lindsay Lohan could relate to Elizabeth Taylor, and we felt that with the combination of her acting talent with her personal experiences similar to Elizabeth Taylor‚ she could bring a level of maturity and understanding to the role that maybe others might not."
