NEWS ROUNDUP: Kelly Monaco On Jason's "Pretty Dramatic" Exit From GH; More Bad News For KATIE

Kelly Monaco Talks Balancing Big Jason Morgan Exit Storyline On GENERAL HOSPITAL With DANCING WITH THE STARS
Originally, there were plans to lighten Kelly's load at work, but the impending departure of beloved GH star Steve Burton, who plays Sam's husband (although they're divorcing on the show), Jason Morgan, has meant more material.

"They're wrapping up a nine-year relationship," Kelly said.

Steve, who plays lethal killer Jason on the show, is moving with his family to Tennessee after more than two decades on "GH," and Kelly doesn't even want to think about her co-star leaving.

"Man, I haven't even been able to cross that bridge yet. I don't like goodbyes," she said. "I'd like to think that he's just gonna take a little vacation and come back. I know it might be wishful thinking."

Kelly has an inkling of how Jason will exit Port Charles, and she said it's likely to be "pretty dramatic."

KATIE lost 43% of GENERAL HOSPITAL New York audience on Wednesday
On WABC New York last Wednesday, for example, KATIE scored a 1.8/14 at 3 p.m., while "Harvey," on WNBC at 3 p.m., turned in a 1.2/10. While head-to-head, KATIE won that timeslot battle, the Couric show lost 43% of its GENERAL HOSPITAL lead-in (3.2/24).

Soap Writer Craig Heller Writes New York Times Article: How to Solve a Career Cliffhanger
The numbers didn’t add up: Ten years of writing soap operas on network television. Four Emmy Awards. One Writers Guild Award for script of the year. Then four months out of work. And zero job offers.

After years of honing my skills to become a television writer in a very specific niche, I had to find a new way to employ my writing talents.

Today, College Essay Solutions is a growing business, with students all over the country. I blog and tweet about the essay process and have the requisite Facebook page. Everything I’ve learned in a 20-year career as a writer — from pitching ideas to working with difficult producers to revising, editing, even inspiring — is now being applied in a different way.

EASTENDERS films huge fireball stunt
The soap's cast and crew filmed the biggest scenes of the year so far on Friday night for a storyline which sees Lauren and Joey's reckless actions end in disaster. Earlier this week, it was revealed that a future storyline will see the Walford cousins crash into the front window of a shop after stealing Derek's car.

  4. I will miss both actors on Y&R as for Katie HEY ABC ME thinks you made a BIG MISTAKE not keeping OLTL AND AMC!!!THIS HAS to be the biggest error of judgement in tv history!!The only thing that remotely comes close is when nbc decided to give jay leno a primetime show, put conan on the tonight show then promptly fire conan and give leno his gig back. Serves ABC right for killing two top rated soaps for talk show trash like KATIE!!!

  5. RE: The big drop-off in New York:

I would like to see "One Life" and "All My Children" come back just as much as everyone else, but the reality is, we're in different economic times now in the television business. Every show on TV is judged by the bottom line and if it's not making money, out it goes!

RE: The big drop-off in New York:

I'm afraid if "Katie" doesn't do well, TPTB at ABC will blame GH for not being a good lead-in. So do we really want to keep people from watching "Katie" just because we're angry? We just might be causing the cancellation of GH.

  7. Sensing a litte déjà vu here?

"After respectable ratings for Monday's premiere episode of The Jane Pauley Show, figures for NBC Universal's syndie yakker plummeted over the next three days. Skein's primary telecast posted a 2.4 rating/7 share in metered markets on Monday, but Tuesday's episode posted a 1.9/6, Wednesday's came in at 1.8/5 and Thursday's fell to 1.7/5. That's a 29% drop in four days. The ratings must be especially worrisome considering many NBC affils promoted 'Pauley' during the heavily watched Olympics, and the show's first-run episodes are up against reruns of other daytime skeins."
