Connie Britton Joins Hayden Panettiere, Jonathan Jackson & Eric Close in NASHVILLE

In our most recent "The Year of the Soap" feature we highlighted the fall pilots we were most excited to watch. At the top of the list was Callie Khouri's NASHVILLE. Since then the show's casting decisions have solidified our thoughts with former soap stars Hayden Panettiere, Jonathan Jackson and Eric Close signing on. But today's casting of lead Connie Britton, one of the the best (and most overlooked) actresses on television, to play country singer Rayna James makes this not only a promising pilot but a potential smash hit.

NASHVILLE centers on 40-year-old Nashville fading superstar Rayna James (Britton) whose label requires her to team up with teen sensation Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) on tour–or else face the loss of her own tour and the label’s promotion of her latest record, whose sales have been underwhelming. Complicating things for Rayna, a married mother of two, is that she is the family’s sole breadwinner.

Britton most recently starred in AMERICAN HORROR STORY but it was her portrayal of Tami Taylor on FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS that won our hearts forever. A FNL movie is also in the works.
