NEWS ROUNDUP: DVR Ratings & C3 Bump, Kin Shriner & Kristina Wagner Return to GH, Pre-Emption Alert

DVRs and Streaming Prompt a Shift in the Top-Rated TV Shows
Among the group that determines much of the revenue of the television business, viewers ages 18 to 49, ABC’s MODERN FAMILY now is the most popular show on television.

No other show on television comes close to that comedy in adding 18- to 49-year-old viewers who record shows and watch them later. So far this season, new episodes of MODERN FAMILY have grown from a first-day average of 7.1 million viewers in that age group to 10.2 million, counting seven days’ worth of added viewing — a gain of 3.1 million each week, according to Nielsen Research.

The networks would eventually like to sell ad time based on seven days of viewership, but most viewership happens in the three-day window; Paul Lee, the president of ABC Entertainment, said ABC is able to “capture about 93 percent” of the value of the MODERN FAMILY audience with the C3 ratings (Live + 3 days of DVR viewing).

Among the prime-time hits that get a 40 percent or higher lift among 18- to 49-year-olds because of time-shifting: GLEE, ALCATRAZ, PRIVATE PRACTICE, GREY'S ANATOMY and REVENGE.

DAYTIME SOAP FANS ALERT: Pre-emptions NCAA Conference Tourmanents This Week
The NCAA Basketball Tournament starts next Thursday (March 15) but this week is when local stations that show conference tourmanent games pre-empt their daytime soaps. If your DVR your favorite soap in the daytime, check local listings.

For example, B&B airs at its normal time on WRAL, but Y&R will air overnight.

ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Lenny Platt to star in "If You Start a Fire [Be Prepared to Burn]"
The play is a sexual comedy penned by Kevin Kautzman which follows a couple, Chris and Lucy, as they each explore surreptitious ways to survive the difficulties of the economic recession. The play will run from April 25 – May 20 at the Gene Frankel Theatre, located at 24 Bond Street, in Manhattan.

The Complete Dark Shadows DVD on sale April 10
The 131-DVD set, listed at $599.98, will include all 1,225 episodes which aired from 1966 to 1971 on ABC.

Kristina Wagner confirmed back to GENERAL HOSPITAL
Look for Wagner to begin airing in late April (hopefully Maxie can hang on that long!), although the length of her stay in Port Charles is as yet unconfirmed.

GENERAL HOSPITAL' Emma Samms believes if anyone can save GH it's Frank Valentini
"He’s interested in all aspects of the show, so hopefully that will make it a much more cohesive product. He was there on the set when we were shooting my scenes, and he was interested in the performance and the camera shots and the wardrobe and everything. He obviously cares about it and I admire that so much."

Kin Shriner returning to GH too
Per Nancy Lee Grahn's Facebook page: "Kate's Band 'TRACTION' plated 2nite for 250 ppl. Kelly Sullivan came with insanely cute beau along with Lisa Locicero and Kin Shriner who's on way back to General HOTpital."

Michael Easton previews John McBain's GH stint
"[Executive producer] Frank Valentini gave me an impassioned speech that really got to me. My biggest concern was that I didn't want to go to GH just to bait some of the OLTL audience. I didn't feel that was very valid or fair. It would just piss off the GH audience and disappoint the OLTL fans. There needs to be a really good reason why McBain is in Port Charles — something organic, not forced — and I think they came up with a good one."

GH alum Greg Vaughan tweets arrival of new baby
Vaughan (ex-Lucky) and wife, Touriya, welcomed their third son today, Landan Reid, who weighed in at 8.2 lbs and 19.5 inches long.

Aaron and Ed pucker up on EMMERDALE
Of all the bars in all the world (well, Hotton), Aaron’s new boyfriend Ed wants to go for a drink in Bar West, where Aaron met Jackson. Aaron’s fresh start takes a big step backwards into the tragic past that he still can’t quite escape from.

THE LYING GAME's Alexandra Chando grateful for her time as Maddie on AS THE WORLD TURNS
"I'm definitely more mature as a person, now. But working on the soap helped me in more ways than one with these roles. It was such a great school, and such a great learning experience, that I think it's really helped me. And I think it shaped me as a person as well. So I'm very grateful for that time of my life."

Kelly Ripa to host TVLand Awards again
The show, which honors the classic icons of television, music and film, will be taped to air on TV Land April 29 at 9 p.m.

Lindsay Lohan praised by SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE stars
"She let us go there, and we tried to handle it as gently as possible," cast member Taran Killam said. "She was the one who was, like, 'Go to town!' She really wants to turn it around, and she was great. I was surprised. She was a real trooper."

GREY'S ANATOMY boss Shonda Rhimes on a possible Katherine Heigl return
"I think it was really nice to hear her appreciating the show. We are on a track we have been planning, and the idea of changing that track is not something we are interested in right now."

WALKING DEAD exec producer Robert Kirkman comments on the demise of Dale
"Dale’s character has been the heart and soul of the show. He’s definitely the moral compass. He’s the guy that, more so than anyone, has been warning people to be careful how you let this world change you and monitoring what lengths people are going to survive. His loss is going to mean a great deal for all the characters in the show and is definitely going to represent a turn to a darker space. His death means a lot."
